Why does it seem that this generation of twenty somethings can't grow the hell up and get their own place to live after college?

Jesus christ people! Get a life! Get YOUR OWN life!

Living with mommy and daddy after college means YOU ARE NOT AN ADULT!

I moved out when I was 19, had a job since I was 14, I like my independence. :D

I don't understand either. I bought my own place and moved out of my parents house when I was 22. It's amazing how much better you get along with the folks when you don't see them as often...lol.

You guys are obviously adults. Some of these twenty somethings don't get it man, and I don't get it either.

I never moved back after college. Although when I moved back from Boston after living there for three years I lived with my dad for a month before I found a place.

(rofl)
agreed, 100%... granted I don't have a "house", but I have still been on my own since I was almost 20. It really doesn't take that much besides a steady job and a roommate. Hell, I'm even living on my own while going to college... everything's affordable if you put the work in. Plus, being able to do whatever the F I want when I want is so worth the bills. :D Plus, face it, it's just part of life... You have the first 18 yrs to live w/ mommy and daddy, not pay a single bill (cell phone an exception maybe?), and buy all those toys you want. People grow up and age, its a part of life, so move w/ it! JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON PEOPLE!!

dunno about the relevancy of this "smilie"

Moved out around 22 just before finishing my BS degree, but still know many people who live at home. However that does not totally mean they aren't mature. It is those that are not fully seeking every chance to become independent that bothers me slightly.
Heck I know a 40yr who still lives at home!! No, he is not simply staying there to "take" care. He for some reason lacks any real self confidence to move on, which he won't fully learn till he does.

I do not agree, being "mature" means providing for yourself, and you don't do that while living with your parents, I don't care if you pay them "rent" either.

Situtaions occur. I don't live with my folks and havn't for years, but I'm damn sure they'd be understanding and take me in if I lost my job for an extended period or something else happened. Not all twentysomethings live at their parents because they want to.

Living at home until you are married is also cultural for some people.

22 Now...OWN a brand new home in Florida. If your little s*** isnt out by 18...you should be able to enlist his ass and put him in the service for bout 4 years and straiten his tail out! :) Army Pride!

Then there are some people who always have an excuse for why they are living with their parents....

"I have student loans to pay off."
"The job market sucks."
"I want to be able to afford more expensive toys."
"I have no credit."

Sometimes you just have to take a few chances and just go for it. Even if you have to take on a little debt and live frugal, it will eventually pay off in the long run.

hah, forced army service, WOOT :p

Yea..."cultural" meaning, hang on to mommies apron strings for as long as you can. BAH!

Moving back home for a couple of months while you get your s*** back together is dif. than staying at home and never moving out.

What pisses me off even more is when you see a guy (or girl) and they have this TOTALLY modded car, and they live at home with mommy and daddy. I want to slap these people upside of the head.

Hmm, lets see... of the 4 things... I fit into 3 of the categories... I have perfect credit, but w/ exception to that, I have $25,000 in student loans, the job market DOES suck (altho I have a somewhat okay job), and no more toys for me :( But, doesn't stop me from living on my own now does it? They're all relatively BS excuses to me... IMO.

NO KIDDING!

Good one man! If my son does not have his s*** together by say.....20 years old, I will drag his ass to the recruiter.

It worked for my grandfather (retired Brig. General) it can work for anyone.

Yep, like the stupid Escalade sitting out front of Mommy and Daddys house with 22" rims. Then they are just leaching off the parents food because they can barely make the monthly payments on the vehicle.

LOL yeah, the reason I can't mod my car right now is cuz I don't have the extra money... If I had the choice to live at home and mod the car or be in my position now, you guess what I'd chose... I've had the car for a bit now and haven't moved back in to mod it yet... :D Don't think I EVER will either.

Damn.......it is nice to see so many young adults in here, I thought we would get some twenty something bums giving excuses for why they live at home.

Another example of the quality members we have!

Agreed. Then again, the "twenty something bums" are prolly pretending not to see this thread too... that, or they're still SLEEPING cuz they don't have a job and don't need one because mom+dad = income!

With mortgage rates as low as they are now, there isn't a better time to buy a house than NOW. :) Even rental properties are less expensive because of the demand for purchasing. I purchased a house for less than it would cost to rent a comparable place.
