Today, I got a call from School office saying I have been downloading copyrights movies and music and it is against school policy.
so I'm using my roommate's port to use internet.
I don't really use kazaa and I only use torrents and they were able to find it out???
damn...I have meeting with them tomorrow :wtf:

sorry dude. this summer i worked for another isp. and we had to shut off two people over the summer for file sharing.

I never upload files though...
what is RIAA??????
and how do they know? to check my download bandwidth?

RIAA is record industry!!!!
they will FIND you if u download upload too much, havent you heard the news of them suing illegal downloaders?! a 12 year old settled for $2000!! she had to pay $2000 for downloading illegally!! they use these programs themselves and find out.

RIAA = Recording Industry Association of America

One way is checking which ports you are using.

hmm... They can track even torrents?
maybe it was the songs I have downloaded... 2 albums of 50 cents..

what about movies???

yep. everything. not realyl movies, but some companies are starting to join in hunting for their stuff. i'd seriously get a clue about whats going on before you continue.

I thought they were only going after those SHARING files? I keep all my downoaded files offline. Are you saying they could still get me?

The items are not technically illegal if you own them in another format, ie CD and MP3. Go out and buy everything you downloaded, she them the proof and there really is not a case.

And if you own the copyrights in another format then you have a "license" to own it in any format that you want. It is the same as making a backup of a program.

they are mainly going after those who download and share...but i'm not saying you're safe if you download and keep it offline...

yeah the riaa has been getting on schools really hard along with movie studios and such...since technically the school would be the isp they are liable for any legal action...so most schools know what servers are filesharing servers and they keep an eye out for who connects to them...

last semester a girl lost her internet priveledges (she was the sacrificial lamb) and faced possible expulsion from the university for downloading movies...

yeah so if you want to get off the hook make sure you have legal copy of those 2 50cent cds

hmm... no more downloading movies from torrents anymore?

what about animation series on TV, is that considered as copyrights too? even though they are showing at japan?

I have a question about this whole thing.

What if I record a song off of the radio and then put that onto my computer? Its the same damn thing!

If the RIAA is reading this (upyours)

As you can see this subject pisses me off.

I remeber when this whole thing went down with Napster a few years back. I got booted for having Dr. Dre songs.:bs:

Write a short research paper for a "class" and you have nothing to worry about. I was threatened by the Jeff Buckley Estate with legal action, until I faxed them receipts showing that I had purchased all Jeff's albums two days after I had downloaded one song and three months before I was contacted by them.

You can copy copyrighted materials for "research purposes" as long as you have no intent to distribute it.

I must say...Damn School.
since school started, I have downloaded over 10GB of movies and softwares and they didn't say anything about it, and last week I downloaded 50 cents album and now i'm busted.
meeting with school director tomorrow will be interesting and we will have discussion about copyrights
