DIY IC Spray for under $10!

Why don't you guys just pull the plug on the wiper motor and be done with it?
Once you do that you can spray the ic all you want with out the wipers going off.
Need your wipers again? Take 20 seconds to pop your hood and plug the b**** back in.

hey black magic, i went to home depot todat to get everything and they didnt have any of it!! the bastards!! nothing 1/4" everything was 1/2" and the didnt have the foggers or anything!!

Because we want the wipers to work when we turn them on. We just want them not to do the 1 sweep when you pull the stalk back to mist.

In the Irrigation aisle? WOW, that's really weird because 1/4" is the standard size. Try a different Home Depot or a Lowes I guess.

Aahhh ok I get it now.
Hmm yeah no idea on that one. Good luck.

The relay is inside the wiper switch. If you pull the far right wire (can't remember the color) that is the wire that will turn on the pump. If you apply 12v to that wire will still atached it will trigger the pump and the relay for the wipers. If you yank that wire out of the harness, then you can apply 12v to it and it will just trigger the pump. That is how i had mine rigged up. That is the only wire inside the car that goes to the pump. The wires off the pump are hard to trace because they go into the main harness along with everything else under the hood. And i was unable to trace it back to do it that way. I had rigged up a seperate switch next to the fog lights that i could flip when i wanted the IC sprayer on. And I still had full function of the wipers are usual, except there was no connection between the pump and the wipers anymore since that wire was disconnected.

I just pulled it all apart earlier today to hook up my washers again. I should have taken pictures.

3 screws remove the cover for the steering column. Then you have access to the harness/wiper switch. If sitting in the driver seat. The farthest right wire is the pump 12v switch.

Hope that helps, that's about the best you can do other than rewiring the pump manually.

If you could post some pictures or write up a quick How-To, that would really help. I'm a noob when it comes to wiring & I can't really follow what you did.

Plannin on doing this tomm. Great thing about the Protege5..is that i can spray the rear winshield..with out activiating the wiper!

:p

I spent about an hour taking the winshield wiper switch apart, and you can't just disable the wipers and keep the washer motor going. There is a switch inside the assy, and this swich goes to the circuit board and out to pin E to turn the washer motor on. So you can disable just the washer motor and leave the wipers on (but that doesn't help). The only way you could break the signal to the wipers and keep the washer going is to get to the circuit board (which doesn't come out unless you break it). I would suggest disabling both the washer's and wipers on the pull back position (I have attached a picture you just pull that brass piece out), cutting the wire that attaches to pin E of the connector and attaching that to a separate remote switch (single pole double throw momentary) and attaching to the other side of the switch the proper voltage signal to operate the washer. You might need a small amount of electrical know-how to do that, so don't get into it unless you know what you are doing.

jurgs, focus dude focus. Damn digital cameras. The carpet in the background is crisp and clear, but the thing you are taking a pic of is fuzy.

Try laying ti down further away and using the optical zoom on your camersa to zoom in on it to fill the frame.

LOL, just noticed that too. Most digicams don't have manual focus, so you have to use spot metering or macro mode or whatever to get it to work.

Macro would work, but honestly, I find the easiest is to back up away from the thing you are photographing and just optical zoom all the way in, then physically move the camera forward/back until it fills the frame.

I am no photographer, but the results look good. Plus no fish-eye effect.

I know the pics were fuzzy, but I didn't notice until I had already put the switch back on the car. It's easy to do and see if you take it apart yourself, and if you have any questions I will answer them.
