Differential seems done, help!

My 2009 CX-9 makes a ding ding ding noise every time I turn. I launched the car from 0kph and heard a very loud bang. I believe my rear differential is done and need replacement but I’ve not yet cleared the issue. I’ve been told that it could be the bushings of the diff or even the PTU. Can anyone help? I also lifted one rear wheel off the ground and spun it and the rear differential was shaking and dinging but I had it in P so it might have been a flawed test. The car still drives just fine when going straight. Also 4wd light is blinking for 30 secs after traction is lost. (3.7L V6 270k kms)

The awd definitely doesn't work if the 4wd light flashed but looks like you might have more than one problem. Transfer case is usually the problem but it could be your rear diff. Also check the bushing on the drive saft. If the diff is shaking it can be the rear diff bushing also. You really need a severe inspection.

I reinspected my wheels. Lifted the right rear wheel and had the car in neutral. When spinning the wheel by hand, there was notching coming from the PTU. I believe the issue is the PTU bearing because I heard a very loud snap when it first happened. By bushings definitely need replacing but is only the cause of the noise. AWD definitely comes from PTU bearing.
