Difference between CX-5 alternators (looking to upgrade)

What is the difference between a 2018 and 2019 CX-5 alternator besides the amp. I am looking to upgrade my alternator for more amps. To accommodate for aftermarket sound system. I know that the 2019 and up uses a 150 amp alt. vs my 2018 non turbo that used 100 amp alt. I'm thinking I could just upgrade to a 2019 that has 150 amp. I'm only pushing 750 watt mono amp and a 800 watt 4 Channel amp but I do not want to deplete my battery and if it's even worth doing.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I mean 100amps X 12V is 1200W capable. Are you listening at max volume all of the time? I've never heard of upgrading the alternator but i have heard of installing large audio grade capacitors in an a audio system to try and accommodate the higher instantaneous power draws. Id look into those first. Also ive seen people upgrade their main harness grounding wires (engine to chassis, transmission to chassis, fuse box to chassis) to help the extra current flowing thru the grounding to the audio system.bad or missing grounding can cause clipping with higher output systems.

Thank you I appreciate the feedback. I’ll look into the capacitor. I did do the big three upgrade which are the ground cables you’re talking about thanks again

Another thing you could do would be to look up ebay listing for both alternators. You may be able to find enough detailed photos of the higher powered one to tell if it's going to fit on your car or not. Like connector compatibility and mounting locations.

I suppose if you wanted to get really crazy you could take the OEM alternator and re-wind the electric motor to get more power out of it. Ive seen a few YT shorts where people are restoring electric motors for power stations but idk why you couldn't do the same to a car alternator.

yeah . ive ben looking at both alt. the alternators look very simular. the only difrence that i can see is the amp. ome is 100 and the other is 150 , Im assuming due to the turbo on the 2019. my concern that they made have change the pin wiring to accomadate for the turbo booster. it the same exact motor and the same model design. Im just not sure i want to try and short my system.

The turbo is mechanical and not electric, though it does have an electric bypass valve. I don't think that would take tons of power but I'm not sure.

The other thing to consider is that the Turbo trim has the Bose speaker system with the subwoofer and amplifier.

yes mine had the bose system but it wasnt good enpugh for me. have the GTS. so thats not what the extra 50 amps are for. Ill probably be ok with the stock alteranator with just the big three cable upgrade, at least my light arent diming when im pumping the bass. I just feel i maybe puting a stain on my alteranor or battery.
