Diff between lateral arms and trailing links?

from what i can tell the single arm that controlls the front to back motion of the hub assembly is the laternal arm like in the gt spec pic by corksport.....and the trailing arms are the arms that cume form under the car and go out towards the hub and controll the side to side motion of the hub assembly?

I'm so confused now with all this damn suspension stuff from GT-SPEC and AWR. What is the difference between these....

and these

Corksport says lateral arms, but from what i can tell wouldnt trailing links go in the same locations as these lateral arms?
What GT Spec calls the Lateral Arms are actually the Trailing Links, according to Mazda, and are listed as such in the FSM. They are placed parallel with the longitudinal axis of the car.

So that means the trailing links by AWR would install in the same spot as the lateral arms from GT SPEC?

If lateral arms and rear trailing links are close to the same thing (according to Mazda), how come AWR offers them as two different parts? Which by the way, cost two VERY different prices: Lateral arms (400.00) and trailing links (125.00)

mattybo...just email corksport or awr....simple :)

yea i sent them an email, still waiting on a response. I think im gonna go ahead and purchase the GT-SPEC lateral arms, i dont think i really need the trailing links unless i need to mess with camber/toe and am running auto-x or something like that. I actually think im gonna purchase every dayam piece that GT-SPEC makes. Corksport has all of them on their MSP, so i might as well too ;)

Although AWR doesn't provide photos, they state that their High Performance Trailing Links are replacements for the OEM trailing links and therefore I believe are equivalent to the GT Spec Lateral Arms.

I think this is the explanation: The AWR High Performance Trailing Links ($125) and High Performance Lateral Links ($400) ARE two different parts. The AWR lateral links replace the OEM lateral links. The set contains both front and rear lateral links and both are mounted to the rear crossmember. They are mounted transversely (across) the car between the two rear wheels. Incidently, AWR states that the lateral links are not recommended for street application.

I think the basic confusion here is that the Protege rear suspension uses both trailing links and lateral links and although AWR uses the correct nomenclature, GT Spec mislabels what is actually their trailing links as lateral arms.

awesome...so the lateral links are the two shorter arms that go fromt he center of the car out to the hub assembly right? and the trailing arm is the long arm that runs from under the rear door to the hub assembly? (friday)

Yes, I believe that's correct.

Even though the lateral arms are not RECOMMENDED for street use they still can be, right?
I honestly have no idea. AWR says the lateral arms are not recommended for street use on their website but they don't say why. I guess the best and safest thing to do would be to contact them directly for more information.

Yeah, I suppose so. That would make some sense. Thanks again.

Well considering corksport has every damn piece of GT-SPEC suspension on their car, i don't see why you cant use them for street use. Corksport isnt making an auto-x car, they are making a street car. I would feel perfectly comfortable using all that stuff, and i plan to do so!

Autobox: Im hoping i can get them in a different color cuz that orange would like kinda funky, even though no one would really see it.

about how much would the whold GT-spec set be? around 2k

hellllz no i would say under 1k.

If you add up everything corksport has available you are at around 440. The v brace, protective panel and lateral arms arent available through corksport yet but i imagine those 3 would add on another 400 or so?
