Did anyone ever beat HOV violation ticket?

I haven't had experience with it, but what would you argue? "Your honor there was actually a small child stuffed under my seat at the time I was ticketed"

How WOULD you fight this ticket?

Just own up to breaking the law and move on

You never know, people come up with all kinds of weird defense which sometimes works.
I don't really hope to beat this ticket unless they believe that I had two imaginary friends with me at the time, but just wanted to throw it out there and see what experiences people had. I'm thinking of probably taking it to court and plea bargain with the prosecutor so as not to get any points and just pay the fine.

HOV lane is another scheme to make money under pretense of greater good. Yes, surely, there's an occasional bus using it but most of the time it would've been much better if it was used to dissolve condensed morning and evening traffic in other lanes. So I don't think your "jackass" remark is appropriate.

how much is an HOV violation in your city?

An HOV violation here in Nashville is only $15.00. Not worth fighting at all.

I'm not 100% sure since the ticket is not in the system yet and I never had one of these before, but looking up online produced $140 with 2 points.

yes...you are right. The HOV lane is not to promote car-pooling, public transportation, or emergency vehicle use...its simply bait for people who don't feel like they are subject to traffic congestion. And since there is no Toll or other charge for multiple-passenger vehicles to use that lane, I suppose the city is a Jackass for creating it as source of revenue.

Yes, it is somewhat crazy. Red light violation (something that actually endangers people's lives), for instance, is $85 with 2 points, and HOV violations is $140 with the same 2 points.

holy s***.... my speed competition ticket i got like 6 years ago wasn't even 271.

I also can't believe they add points to your license, thats crazy.

that's crazy that they take points! Here in Colorado I think its 115 or so, but no points. There was a story awhile back where someone was even busted in the HOV lane with a mannequin in the car lol...least hes creative

I see your point on the fine...makes no sense. Hopefully by going to court they will reduce the points to 1 or none. You generally are hosed with the fine regardless though.

in utah the violation is a class C misdemeanor and carries a fine of $500 and/or three months in jail.

well..... you could try n state that you misread the HOV lane sign and thought it was the appropriate time for anyone to travel in the lane. usually the HOV is only designated between rush hour/heavy traffic times. Well here in VA anyway, idk about where you are.

It's from 6 to 9 in the morning and 4 to 7 in the evening but I doubt that's going to work. As they say, not knowing that you are breaking the law does not relieve you of duty of paying the fine.
