Did anyone ever beat HOV violation ticket?

then you shouldn't have eaten that soft taco supreme and thought you could make it home during rush hour

You and your wife would be sitting in traffic as everyone else in NJ since they require 3 or more people in the car to travel in designated lanes. Far better and more fair promotion of carpooling, in my opinion, is charging high occupancy vehicles less for tolls at bridges and tunnels. For instance Holland tunnel is $2 for buses and vehicles with 3 people or more as opposed to $8 for everyone else.
I don't think it's fair though that essentially 25% of the roadway is taken up by the HOV lane, and then whoever does not comply gets an oppotunity to be anally ***** by the city.

Also I think on the NJ turnpike you're allowed to use this lane if you're driving a hybrid.

You are correct! Thank goodness I live in north Jersey where I don't have to deal with those stupid HOV lanes. Well sometimes I am around there but I avoid the Turnpike like the plague during rush hour anyway....especially area around Newark where they are. Even still the few times I've been around there I've seen very little enforcement.

You never know, people come up with all kinds of weird defense which sometimes works.
I don't really hope to beat this ticket unless they believe that I had two imaginary friends with me at the time, but just wanted to throw it out there and see what experiences people had. I'm thinking of probably taking it to court and plea bargain with the prosecutor so as not to get any points and just pay the fine.

To be honest, I think the judge will look at you and just be in aw. Instead of paying your fine, plus court fees, just pay the fine so you don't pay more than what you have to

You don't really see the judge when you plea bargain. All is done with the prosecutor. Besides, extra $30 in court fees are worth not getting the 2 points.

You see the judge here. Usually if you get a speeding ticket which is 70 to 90 bucks and if you try to get out of it, they charge a good amount for court fees depending on how much of an asshole you are. The husbands a cop and he tells me the judge here is harsh(five-0). I have never had any tickets, so I just go by what he says

I agree, sounds like another source of revenue. Fortunately, we don't deal with that particular nonsense here, just "left-lane bandits/squatters".

nah, we would just have to cram my huge brother in law in with us again. we kind of make a team activity out of it, sometimes leaving each others rides locked up in the work garage.... some of the HOVs around here require 3+...

i agree with you in some respects.. it doesn't work well in all situations/cities... i saw one in dallas that was just an afterthought... the one's we have here are usually along huge freeways... sometimes 8 lanes wide... so 25% isn't really accurate if it's built into the freeway... the one along our route takes up maybe 4 feet on each side of the freeway... and are walled in, so people just cant jump in and out.. it flows well... puts you out past the traffic.

some places, it is a bonus for folks willing to team up to get to work, like us.... which is what it was designed for... now that it is working well in our city, along come some idiots, and they will mess it up so it doesn't work for ANYONE any longer, charge you (it's free now).....

I would at least try to plea bargain, tell them it's a first time offense, you were stressed because you were late for something important.

The 2 points are idiotic, though. I guess it's some kind of deterrent, but I've been caught in DC quite a few times in rush hour, and those HOV lanes were of no help whatsoever: everything was gridlocked. Imagine getting hit with 2 points in a gridlocked HOV lane!

Good luck.

HOV is a joke in most areas, just to make money.

Points on your license for an HOV violation is insane. It's not like you put lives at risk by using the HOV lane.

And finally, just tell the judge that the cop didn't take the time to search your vehicle. If he had, he would've noticed the bodies in the trunk & that would have justified using the HOV lane. Hehheh.

Tell him you had to use it to avoid an accident, then no one would let you merge back into the normal lanes.

Looks like cde1218 from the 3 forums saw you when you got pulled over.

i'm in nj too, and i wholeheartedly recommend you take this to court and get it reduced in points. unless you have NJM or some other company that won't raise your insurance rates for pts, you're going to get ***** in insurance...=/
