Dh a/f accuracy.

I am most likely going to sell my car and look elsewhere. I LOVE this car and it is amazing with a few mods and I LOVE driving it. I would go out and just cruise on the highway at night when i was bored (put 11k on it in 4 months) 90% of which was highway. Once it has the brand new perfectly running engine with -10 miles on it I will be most likely looking to sell it and get something different.

Pay to play brother. Just a couple days ago we were both going back and forth on turbo upgrades and you were down. Buy a kseries and spend 1000's "safely" catching up..... or maybe just break the bank on an evo or sti... r32 sounds nice too. Bottom line you'll find another nice car.... if thats what you want.

but.....

Fact remains that this car is winning every comparo out there, is cheap, responds to mods like crazy, and has had virually no blown engine problems that we know of..... until a few just now. And this is somewhat shocking really considering how many evil kneivals are modding and raging the damn things. Its a great platform that makes cheap power easily.

You got unlucky. Thats it. More will as the scene progresses. I KNOW I will blow an engine. My last conversation with Ken was to start building my ass a new motor. Its inevitable. Replace your s*** and pick up where you left off.

Dont talk like youre done now. You love the car and nothing has changed. You got unlucky.....period. Im sorry for you and I look forward to seeing you back real soon. These badboys are gonna be rocking this summer, and you'll be right there. And that includes another few, here and there, blowing the **** up.

my cents.

Edit... I just bought my wife a Honda Odessey tonight with the rear view backup whatever the **** 600 dollar peekaboo. Ive had more beers than I should and im gonna go across the street to my neighbor who just got separated fromhis wife and drink more shots. A ******* blown motor actually is like a notch on the gunbelt.... shake it off and get drunk. If you get rid of your car I'll be pissed.

And that goes for you too Laloosh. Both you guys can eat me for talking like that:) Im out. Im gonna go do shots.

randy just had to tell everyone about his new favorite vehicle, the minivan. :D

northmiller, I've got a ms3 motor in the garage if you want it. I'll have a forsale thread going up soon. I don't have the cord for the camera so I cant get the pics to the computer right now... therefore I can't make the thread yet.

Im thinking about picking up either a white evo or a white V7 sti swapped, RHD bugeye wrx.. Or keeping it. I just wish we had an aftermarket. I was under the assumption that it would come, but we dont have the numbers to have a chance..

You cant honestly say that this isnt hot:

Evos are super rare up here..

//off topic.. ill leave now

So your turbo seal went and youre blaming the ECU? Its well known Mazda has a bad batch of turbos out there with a seal problem. Let them fix it.. A correction needs to be made... The ECU has NO idea what gear you are in so there is no special tune for any one gear. Sorry to see the turbo go but youre making more of it than it really is.

There was no blue smoke so it isnt the seals, home boy. Trust me.. this isnt as simple as a ******* faulty turbo seal. The car is ******.

How is there not a different tune for different gears? Then why do we have different boost in different gears? That alone proves that there is a different tune.

This wasnt a "seal problem" this is a fully blown ass ***** block with molested rods and pistons. Trust me.. It is ****** up. Mazda has already recalled the MS3s with "seal problems" this is not one of them.

And now I am really ******* pissed off. How am I making this more than it is? Explain that to me Mr. I know what happened to your ******* car and even though i wasnt within 3000 miles of the ******* thing.. Why dont you shut the **** up and wait until I get it in the shop and I will tell you the EXACT status of everything. The motor is blown.. not the ******* turbo seals.

I don't quite understand the issue here. My DH reports that my AFR's are a little higher than my Commanded AFR. The only answer I have to that is DUH!

I mean come-on guys. The WHOLE point of watching your AFR's is because as you mod your AFR's GO UP. It only makes sense to me that with the mods you have Laloosh that your AFR's are higher than mine.

When I go WOT and row through the gears are higher than my Commanded. Not as much as yours, but still they are higher by a few .xx. I would expect yours to be even higer with the mods you have.

I don't get this the DH is wrong stuff ether. All WideBands read differently. I would NEVER expect the OEM Wideband to be more accurate than an aftermarket one. Thus the differerance between the OEM and the AEM one of Drivers. It also makes 100% sense to me for the OEM Wideband to report a bit HIGHER AFR's. Companies tend to do this as is example of our cars running so rich stock. Companies overcompensate on the side of safety.

A lot of you guys are really pushing your cars and doing a lot of really cool things. However, I have to question your common sense sometimes such as in this case. I don't know how you would ever expect to mod the car as you have done and NOT expect the AFR's to get higher. That my friend is just part of the business. It is also why tuners get paid to tune cars and maximize the performance while minimizing the AFRs.

I know I know....How can the DH show different AFR's when rolling through the gears than it does in a single gear WOT. Duh once again! There are multiple maps in an ECU. Rolling through the gears probably kicks you to a different map than does say a single gear dropdown to pass someone.

The end of the story as I see it is that the DH is reporting exactly what your ECU see's. You can scream kick and moan to your heart explodes but it will not change this fact. It really does not matter what Drivers AEM WB shows as your ECU makes changes off of the OEM WB and nothing else. So to me, if your car is seeing higher then what the AEM shows, then.....so what? Tune your car, but don't say the device is wrong as that is just stupid to say. An AEM (or any other WB) is only a tool that allows you to fine tune your car. The OEM WB is what your car uses to adjust the ECU and the DH reports what the ECU is seeing. So with an aftermarket WB you can fine tune it better because it is suppose to be more accurate than the OEM WB. So really all Drivers AEM is going to show you or prove is that the actual AFR's are a little lower than what the ECU see's. That's GOOD NEWS.

So once again, Common Sense is the key here. I suggest you rely on it more than any device. And I'm sorry if I'm coming across like an ass here. I know you don't want what the DH is reporting to be right, but saying the DH is broke to make yourself feel better is not the answer. The DESIGNER of the DH is a very cool guy and works very close to the communty on the MSD forum. He himself has told you that the DH reports spot on in their tests. I really don't know what more you could want as proof.

all im running is i/ic/tbe/pump. A/f ratios in the mid 13s above 5k is not right. If the ecu was seeing those conditions it would ask for more fuel and its not, thus coming to the conclusion that the stock wideband is a pos, or this computer simply does not comprehend certain things.

i just did a run in 4th and 5th and my act afr followed my cmd afr.

and hence the problem with the computer not knowing what to do, or the stock o2 being off after a while. even at idle the thing is off. the dh reads 14.2 while a real wide band reads 14.7

Thats not true. LC-1 is right on the money with the stock OEM wideband at idle. There is no ****** way the car is going to be a perfect 14:7 at idle. Remember, the DH has a different sampling rate than my LC-1 ( LOWER ). The activity of the 02 is so erratic, youre never going to pinpoint it.

ive seen wideband in action. they hove btwn 14.5 and 14.8 at idle
the dh hovers around 14.2 and changes 14.3 once in a while. The wierd thing is like i said, that it is commanding a 14.2 at idle, while others are commanding 14.7

or maybe they use a different wideband between the ms3 and ms6, i didn't look at the part numbers so i dont know. anybody?
