Dent in Hood

Damn branch fell on hood and made little dent, did not scratch the paint off, any suggestions on how to make it look a little better? It's not too noticable to others, but it steams me. I don't want to replace hood, and don't want to pay too much for repair, I have no experience with getting a dent repaired, share the knowledge!

Heard of Ding King?

Ding King is a do-it-yourself dent repair kit I saw sometime ago on TV, like those "As Seen On TV" deal. It cost $29.95 I think, and maybe something that might work. I haven't used it before since I don't have any dents on my MP3 yet, but maybe something you can take a look at.

Its kind of like structure with a suction cup with thread(like a screw with a suction cup on one end). And they have some special bonding gel you apply to the dent, then press the suction cup thing onto the spot. As you keep turning the thread with a knob, it slowly pulls the sheet metal out without making any holes, getting rid of the dent. And the gel doesn't seem to damage the paint either as they just wipe off the stuff after they are done.

I don't know if it really works, but it does on the commercial as they literally hammered a couple hoods and repaired it right on the spot. And it has a money back guarantee thing. So, maybe you can give it a try. But do some research though, as they may have better solutions elsewhere on the net.

Maybe other Pro owners can shead some light?

I have seen that commercial, screams scam to me, I think it may work on large bump type dents, but this is more of a sharp point of impact like someone had shot a BB into it, minus scraping the paint off. So I doubt that thing could put it back to original shape. Thanks though, maybe someone has better advice, can a dent repair place do this? how much?

Is any part of the dent surface area crimped or creesed??...Either way and speaking from years of body work experience, even the smallest little dent or ding can be "VERY" troublesome to remove properly. A dent removal should be done by a trained specialist or you could end up with a bigger mess than you started with. If you don't know what your doing and try to push the dent out you could acutally fracture the paint shell from the base primer or metal..and over time create a paint delamination..then rust (ferrus oxide) can set in without you knowing it. A proper dent/ding removal has to have a very good trained eye or specialized external light source to properly remove. IMO, you should just save up and remove by a professional. Typically, a quarter to silver dollar size dents can range from 75-150 dollars, depending upon the excessablity on the dent location..Peace and good luck bro!

thank you sooo much. It sounds like the dent is going to be small enough for me to live with, I can't keep on dreaming that a new car is going to stay a new car. Especially when driving about 5000 miles a month. Thanks for the help though, for fun I will have somebody look at it, if anyone is interested, I could take photo and post the qoute I get. For future reference for anyone.

If you post a photo..I could give you some indication of the difficulty and cost...by my neck of the woods that is;)

Paintless Dent Removal

There is a new form of body shop opening up and they usually have "Paintless Dent Removal" in their name somewhere. I don't know if they are using the "Ding King" type of method or something else, but they advertise as being able to restore body panels to original shap without painting. I have no experience with them, but it would be interesting to get a quote from one to see what the savings, turnaround, and results would be. Jim

Try Dent Wizard or Pres-a-dent

My P5 had a golfball sized dent above the driver's door below the roofrack that I didn't notice when I bought the car. I got home, then noticed it in the garage when the light hit it just right. Called my dealer the next day, and they said no problem, Dent Wizard does this kind of work for them all the time, and got them in touch with me. Took the guy who did it about 2 hours, but you would never know there was a dent there in the 1st place. Dealer paid the cost. This dealer also sells Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche, so anyone they use must be good, and this guy who fixed my P5 was.

A buddy of mine had 3 dings removed from his Accord coupe at Pres-A-Dent, and it also looks perfect. Cost him about $100.

Key to both repairs was that the paint wasn't damaged. If it hasn't been, they can fix that dent.
