Deleting resonators and muffler?

I will definately be taking out the 2 middle resonators, Not sure about the muffler yet, I am not liking the usage of the word "bubbly" in the description of how it would sound. LAST thing that I want is rasp or to sound like a wrx. Other than that Im good. We'll see how just the 2 resonators sound when off to start out with

yes it is called an upstream straight thru muffler. upstream because it is mounted under the car and it is not the last thing the exhaust exits, the tip is. and straight through, because well, it is ! look it up on any muffler companies web site, they all sell them.

It is true that it is not much of a muffler. I took my MS3 to a custom exhaust shop to ask if they could suggest anything for improvements and the guy was very honest in saying it was perfect as is. He told me that the square muffler thingy is all that he could change and when I told him how I heard from you guys it was a straight through he then said then it is as good as it gets.

All he could do for me is make it louder but said there would be no performance increase at all and that the mandrel bent pipe was impressive for a stock config on this car.

haha the muff/resonator debate again. I'm pretty sure this mod does absolutely nothing for performance, but neither does JUST a cat-back. So to anyone planning to purchase ONLY a cat-back for the nice sound, I recommend doing this mod to save mad $$$. I've removed the muff and the resonator closest to it for $50 at the local muff shop. It's a night and day difference...i luv it. I might even go back and remove the last resonator.

I'm still in a debate whether to take out the 2 middle resonators or the back resonator and muffler. Not sure which will sound better! Waiting for the muffler shop to opne up after the holday weekend then I'll go in for having it done. Any oppinions on which to do? Doesn't seem like anyone removes just the 2 resonators in the middle.

They told me those 2 are placed there to keep cabin noise down and removing them would sound like s*** inside the car.

The only reason to do any of this is for noise so you must decide what you want and just how much of it.

im planning on doing this mod to increase some volume of my stock cbe. Should I remove both resonators or remove 1 of the resonators and the muffler? How would the system sound if I do not remove the muffler and remove both resonators? What should I do?

I just removed the muffler and one ( second ) resonator last week. It does sound quite nice, very throaty. Sometimes, sitting at idle, I just move the steering wheel a little to make the RPMs jump 100 and it kinda growls a little. My only concern is that I can't granny shift it to be quiet if, say, I was next to the po-po at a light. It'll drone a little around 2000rpms, then gets quieter the rest of the way (except at WOT). No drone at all on the highway. So, I'm quite happy with the sound, just want to sound a little milder when I feel like it. I'm considering adding a resonated tip. That MIGHT be the inbetween of what I have now and what I did at first, which was just remove the muffler.

How loud are we talkin if we jst run straight 3" pipe from the stock downpipe all the way out, getting rid of the 2nd cat, both resonators and the muffler?? anyone have a vid of this??

you are in the same boat as me! I will have this done tomorrow, I am just unsure if I wasnt 2 resonators or the back resonator and muffler. There is a video of one guy who took out both resonators and left the muffler, BUT he says he has a racepipe/testpipe in place of the second cat, so the sound is badass, but it's with a racepipe dammit! I want to hear a video with the 2 middle resonators removed only! Anyone got one???

here is the video of the middle resonators gone muffler still on but a racepipe in place of the second cat. Sounds pretty freakin sick, but that could be the racepipe that makes the extra sound:

Today I got the muffler and final resonator removed and put straight pipe in. I have to say it is pretty damn quiet in the car. It's a little more bass but nothing at all really. The sound is not nearly as loud as I thought it would be either. When the guy pulled it off the rack it sounded fine outside, but inside you can't tell anything pretty much.

Maybe it takes some time to break in and start to growl. Otherwise, it didn't do that much honestly. HOWEVER I did notice the turbo is a slight bit louder and same with the bov. Not sure if that is due to less backpressure, but that definately sounds sweeter on that part!

do you recommend me to remove the 2 resonators or the muffler and the last resonator?

I planned to remove the 2 resonators, but changed my mind and did the back resonator and muffler and it is not loud at all, only a mild increase in sound. I am hoping it has a breakin period and gets louder. Otherwise it seemed pointless as it did not become very loud after removing those 2 items. If it doesn't get louder I will go back and remove the first resonator at a later time
