I'm pretty sure what the outcome might be, but I just making sure I know what the consensus is.

I voted Alpine, but alot depends on what you are going to be doing with it. Although I would love to get an Alpine HU, the lack of an inexpensive XM tuner deters that from happening. On that fact, I would go Pioneer as I already have the tuner. But for all other duties, I would think the Alpine to be superior.

LOL alpine sucks, they look so ugly, also with the pioneer you have IPBUS so you can get IPbus to RCA and hook up any 3.5mm jack to your mp3/pda/etc and have the sound go thru your car speakers like what im doing

I don't know about Alpine sucking, but I am replacing an old Alpine HU (CDE-7830) because the unit cuts off when I hit ANY button on the faceplate. I sent it in for repair back in 2001 for not playing CDs and now the display cuts off as well as the unit. I have to pop on and off the face plate to get it to work. As for SQ, the unit has been really great, but I have since replaced it with a Pioneer DEHP-7600MP which should come in today or tomorrow. I really love the features of the Pioneer. Reliability has been great from the reviews from www.epinions.com . I just hope it has the same or better SQ as the Alpine had. I think the model you mentioned may be better because it is a much higher up model than the 7600. I also heard about how hard the displays on the Alpines are during the day with other models (not sure about the 9835). Either way, they are both nice units.

yes i have a pioneer deck right now its the deh-6400, has been working PERFECT for 2 years, never had a single problem, works like i just got it, i am actually swapping it out for another pionneer (the one listed above !!) and will give this 6400 to my sis or sell it

ah HA! I evened it up....
Pio looks cool, but Alpine's got the sound thing figured out...

Also what else are you hooking this up to? Fully amped system? speakes off the deck and a sub??? If you're not amping, the alpine gets the power level nod as well.

Personally, the Alpines are very easy to navigate and the variable button colors can match it to your car. The SQ is better than the Pioneer. And by using this Adapter you get the same RCA connections for your equipment

Here's the rest of the setup, which has been in the car for 2+ years already:

Optima red top battery
2 Pioneer Premier TS-W12PRS subs
A/D/S P650 amp
Kenwood KAC-1021 amp
Coustic XM-3e xover
Monster Cable wiring

I voted for the alpine...the control knob on that pio just doesn't feel right. I mean, I guess it's a pretty simple joystick controller, but it just feels like it might break off. It does look cooler, but personally, I'd get the alpine out of the two.

I remember the 1021 Kenwood---A huge size amp

yes it is! 2 fans 4 fuses and all. I had it since high school, way back in '91.

DUDE I had one of those amps too! took up the whole back of my civic's backseat *L* Anyway, with a serious setup, that only makes my alpine preference stronger. I'd look at eclispe as well, but that's jsut me, they're all sorts of bland, as far as asthetics, but that new Iserv memory stick datalink thing is certainly sweet. Not to mention, they're incredibly clean.

Panasonic CQ-C9800u v Alpine CDA-9335

Anyone try the Panasonic CQ-C9800u 70 x 4 / 60 x 4 RMS digital amp.....??

got the deh-p8mp last week on eBay for only $330 CANADIAN dollars brand new.... so that's what.. $265 USD? definitely cheaper than the stores selling it locally for $600 + tax.

function wise, it's better than the older pioneers, especially for the mp3 playback. not really using the 60W/channel feature cuz i have an Alpine amp and JL components. go clean design, good features.... i recommend it.

the Alpine is a solid deck too. Great reliability on those units.
