DEALER HORROR story

Went to dlr for oil leak fix coming from the oil pan. Dlr said no problem will be a quick fix. Got a loaner. A real bad car from Enterprise. Seems that every time I go to the dlr, Enterprise always gives me a car that has at least 35000 miles on it and it is smelly. That is another story.

Dlr calls me a 2 days later that car is ready. Took car home about 8 mile drive and all the oil draind out of it. It seems the tech forgot to put back the oil dipstick tube back into the block. What a dumb a$$. I was livid.

Called dlr up and he had a tow truck sent in from Mazda. The tow truck took nearly 3 hours to get in. Mazda promised ONE hour. What a joke.

Dlr fixed the dip stick housing. It gets better. I asked that the oil filter be replaced the first time and guess what THEY NEVER REPLACED THE FILTER AND I GOT CHARGED FOR IT. How do I know?? Went to my friends shop, put car on lift to check dlr leak fix ( I still see a leak from another part of the oil pan-again, this will be another story) and asked my friend to remove the shi$% dlr oil. I put in Castrol synthetic 5w30 plus a filter. The dlr filter was FILTHY BLACK. Since I got the car back with the supposedly new filter, I put about 50 miles on the car. The dlr filter should not have been FILTHY BLACK. Right?? It should have still been clean right?? Just need to know. Hate this dlr. The srvc. mgr was really nice, very sincere and apologetic. Not like the Ford dlr I took my Mercury marauder and they destroyed my hood (got marauder forum). Really liked this guy. but man what a shi&&y job.

Seems that every time I go to a dlr, it is like playing Russian roulette.

lol ... does it really take that long to type out "dealer", "service", "manager" if your able to type without looking at the keyboard, it should take mere seconds to type out the full words. Well just wanted to say, no biggie.

But its weird, it bothered me as i was reading it.

Stories like this and from personal experience is why I avoid any auto-repair shop ... do as much as I can myself.

I service everything I can myself. No one cares more about your car than you do. I look up how to's and advice, then take my time. I even take pictures when disassembling so I can get it back together right. I learned long ago that the dealerships will screw you.

I'm thinking of doing as much maintenance myself as I can on my Speed3. I had a few bad incidents with my P5 and the dealer. They usually corrected their mistakes when I pointed them out, but I wouldn't have made those mistakes in the first place.

I've never been a wrench jockey, but I installed Corksport MM inserts the other day. After that, I feel like I can tackle changing my own oil. I'm almost 30, and I'm trying to learn how to do all this stuff now. Better late than never I guess.

^^ agreed just keep workin on it. i didnt know how to change wiper blades on a car when i bought my spec v. now im confident in alot of things

weird i took my car in this weekend for its first oil change and my oil pan was leaking too, but they fixed it no charge.

I love these horror storys. They are terrible to experience true, BUT if you look at the operating numbers of a busy dealer their percentages are pretty low.

wow man, that sucks for your experiences... hopefully things will look up for you with dealership maintenance...or do yourself a favor and learn to do it yourself... plus you'll get to buy cool tools, and learn how to fix your ride all in one!! a win-win situation!!

Kinda hard to judge an oil filter's age by looking at it. No matter how well you drain the oil, there will be dirty oil left in the oil pan & it will mix with your new clean oil. With any luck, that dirt gets caught in the filter PDQ.

What I'd be scared shiznitless about is the damage done to your engine when it ran dry. You may not feel it right away, but lord only knows what kind of stress your rings, valves, bearings & turbo were subjected to.

Im worried about the potenial damage

The engine sounds fine, no clicking, or clanking, rattles etc. The oil pan always has some oil left even with this massive leak. Yeah, you are right in the future this could be a problem. I hope the promblem(s) surfaces during the warranty period.

The filter issue bothers me because on top of everything else I feel ripped off by the "stealrship".

That "stealership" will not see me again. I am switching dealers from now on all warranty related issues. Only have two more stealerships near me.

Are they "speed-certified" dealers? Is there even such a thing? I don't even know if they have to be, but I recently met some people in Indiana (actually, I saw them around my car, admiring it) who told me that they couldn't get a speed3 because their local Mazda dealers told them they weren't speed-certified and couldn't work on their cars.

The closest Speed dealer to me is 70 miles away. They told me I have to go to them for any engine-related warranty work, but a regular Mazda dealer should be able to handle bumper to bumper type stuff.

Agreed. wtf OP? lol

They do need to be "speed" dealers.

I would make that dealership give me an extended warranty or get the Mazda service rep in to weigh in on it. You could have serious problems later on because of this, no question.

FMOS = Fix My Own Sh!t.... no one works on my stuff. Well, except for my automatic transmissions. Those things are like some kind of black magic or voodoo or something. But the nice thing about being a racer is that it's easy to find out who builds the truly good stuff.
