De-Badging question

I was wanting to de-badge my speed6 and replace the mazda logo on the back. I know that the mazda logo has holes drilled for the badge, but does the "mazdaspeed6" have holes drilled for it or is it just sticky side stuff? I would like to know before i start taking it off and it becomes too late. Thanks.

^This.

I just debadged mine on Saturday. It came off nicely with a combination of warm water, dental floss, and some firm-but-even pulling. The remaining adhesive came off with a little picking and pulling followed by a once over with the clay bar. I think it looks a lot cleaner.

Yep, nothing to worry about when removing the 'Mazdaspeed6' badge. I used a heat gun with some dental floss and it came off without a problem. Finished up with some Goof-off, a little clay and wax and it was a done deal.

Good call, Steve. Goof-Off/Goo Gone works wonders; that's how I got rid of the dealer decal. I would have used some for the Mazdaspeed badge if I had some on hand.

Any tips for the "M" emblem with the holes and such? Do I need to take apart the trunk and push it through from behind, etc?

If you heat it up and use floss, you can pull the emblem off without too much trouble, and you should be able to save it. Also, a plastic putty knife once you get it started (keep it parallel to the paint) will help to give you enough leverage to get the badge off.

If the MS6 is like other cars with which I've dealt, there's nothing other than than the adhesive attaching them to the trunk. The holes are simply there for alignment purposes. The "M" should come off just as simply as the "Mazdaspeed6", it'll just leave behind a couple holes that will require some body filler, sanding, and painting.

no the holes there really do hold it in place..it has 2 little tabs on the back of the mazda sign be careful taking it out becuase they are very easy to break but if u take ur time u shouldnt have a problem with it

Ahh... Thanks for the heads up!

So if the tabs do break off, do you just have a couple pieces of plastic rattling around inside the trunk lid?

You could pull the felt liner down and get them out. They're only about a half inch long, if that.

u dont even need to do that. i broke it off before they just get stuf in the holes becuase it wouldnt go thru cuase there are little plastic like holders an they jsut sit inside them. there isnt a way for them to fall inside the lid. theyll sit in little white plastic looking things an u can jsut scoop it out with somethign very sharp or jsut take hte plastic pieces out and jsut shake em out.

Alright thanks guys, I bought a blacked out M badge to replace the chrome one and wanted to take off the mazdaspeed6 badge. you have been very helpful. Will post pics on Friday to update (spin)
