DDM Tuning Apexcone Raptor HID Kit - $30 plus shipping

you mean the adapter from the headlight harness to the ballast? sorry, now I get it, yeah, I coulda told you that was included.

actually this is what im talking about

it plugs in behind the light and plugs into the OE harness, the local kit didn't have the adaptor, and i confirmed the DDM kits do.

pretty stupid design but it plugs into the back of the bulb and extends the prongs basically.

in relation to the pic, the bulb goes to the right.

I've read all 38 pages of this thread, and I have to admit- I am still a bit confused on if this is a good modification or not. It seems that the majority of people buying these seem to be happy (omitting microman777):

Well, my 35w HID is just not really that brights on my MP3. I'm really unhappy with it, and honestly, I think it sucks in brightness. I was expecting a lot more from it when I got it.

There also appears to be a very select few who are against the idea of using HIDs without a proper projector housing (or at least to me, it appears they are against it- I could be mistaken their 'tone'):

Also, even though the light is brighter if you add an HID kit to your halogen housing, you have to aim the beam down, and considering that most people will get this kit with the intention of having better lighting that is brighter and aims further, you're pretty much where you started with the halogen light, except your light is more scattered all over the road since the factory headlight housing isn't made for the extra light output that an HID bulb gives

and
Him, and everyone else thinking these plug and play HID kits are cool. Retrofitting and doing real research about HID's has taught me a lot.

and...
IMO, if you're not happy with the lighting, you need to invest in a proper focusing solution (projectors)... not simply throwing more improperly focused light out there.

(To be fair- I think Wagonbacker9 was responding to someone wanting to use 55W instead of the 35W kit. Never-the-less, I think there is an implication in his statement that the "proper" way is not to use HIDs with a scatter housing, but with a projector housing.)

So... For those of you who are against this- what's the story? Are you saying that this is entirely bad? It seems to me from some of the pics throughout the thread that if properly aimed (which is way down) these bulbs can provide a substantial amount more light than halogens. So do you totally disapprove of them? If so, do you have a real concrete reason as to why?

I mean- this looks really good:

Then again, this doesnt look good at all:
without projectors...it's illegal, yeah yeah... tho it does look like your going 'lightspeed'

(And one slightly unrelated question- if I get HID low beams, I would need to aim them pretty far down. Is that far enough down to cause my high beam to become unusable? I do mostly city driving, but I do sometimes do some country driving with high beams.)

There is the keyword, "very few". Most people that buy this kit don't know anything about HID's, and how they are meant to be in a proper projector meant for the HID bulb. After doing research about HID retrofitting (like I did on mine) you realize just how bad these kits are for not only your car, but other cars on the road as well.

Or you can not take my advice and go for it, I'm just telling you my knowledgeable opinion. If I go back to OEM lights, I'm getting these halogen bulbs:

From what I've read the factory wiring can handle those just fine.

LOL - I wish I had never made this thread in the first place, it's become a monster

No thanks, that's why I read all 38 pages... Thanks for your opinion! I'll skip this. Sure wish Mazda would have put more attention into the charging system! I LOVED running SilverStars, but blowing them every 4-6 months is just way to costly.

If I can find an old school battery charger, I'm gonna take the large zener diodes out of it, and regulate the power to my lights. Then I will go back to silverstars...

see post 545

Yes, I did. That's the reason I'm asking- that job didn't look very easy. He had to cut a hole in the back of the housing, I don't want to have to do that.
Wierd though, I'm sure I read a while back Antoine saying that the h3 bulb fits fine in the p5 fog housing??

fyi, DDM cust support is horrible and warranty is kinda lame, i had some on my accord and a bulb went bad, they wanted me to take it out, send it to them, they would inspect and send me antoher. meanwhile i had to go back to the reg. lights. they wouldn't even let me do like a core charge.

same problem with them

also make sure to keep a hard copy of the sale order or at least the email. cuz they don't like to send out replicate copies and say they don't keep old sales in their d-base.

Installed 35W kit today in my 2003 P5 at my buddies place... Forced all those wires/plugs through the hole of rubber donut cover thing (no cutting needed), snipped off the corner of the HID spacer because it was blocking the clip from latching/closing... ultimate perfect fit, mega flush =)

I do not want to turn on my HIDs for daytime driving, so I was wondering. If I leave my switch in the off setting (no cluster lights/parking lights), i know that once i release the handbrake there will be current going towards the lowbeams for the DRLs, this is not enough current to turn on the HIDs, but would this constant current, harm the ballasts in any way?
