Just got 2021 US one and headlights as DRL is ridiculousDRLs in Canada is mandatory. You can’t turn the DRLs off via the official instruction posted here in this forum as Mazda doesn’t let you do it due to the legal issue.
No, the procedure is to turn the DRLs off or on.Just got 2021 US one and headlights as DRL is ridiculous
Are you saying that following that crazy procedure will make DRL work with no headlights?(I don't want to be left with no DRLs at all)
Will definitely try tomorrow
Will this work on a 2021? My light switch goes automatically back to "auto" by default; I can't keep it on "off" without holding it there. Has anyone gotten it to work with 2019 and newer models?Guide: - How To Disable Daytime Running Lights (instructions)
Here are the ridiculous instructions for disabling the 2013 Mazda CX-5 Daytime Running Lights. This is no longer done through the diagnostic computer. Timing for the procedure is critical. If you miss a step, the procedure will fail and you will have to start over. The tech at my dealership...www.mazdas247.com
Do you have an electric parking brake and does your light switch go to auto position automatically? It worked on our '23 CE.
Strange, there are 2 ways on my USA 22 turbo to turn off the daytime running lights. One is removing the drl relay in the engine compartment. 2nd is do the procedure. When drl is off, the headlights function as described in the owners manual. In the parking position on the stalk, the halos that surround the main lamp come on. In the US, there is no federal regulation for drl. With my Canadian version 2022 Sport Design (with Adaptive headlights and halo lights), the DRL relay does absolutely nothing. It's the FBCM that turns on the headlights, either for DLR, Auto or Manual.
TPMS has been a US mandate since 9/1/2007. If manufacturers don't feel customers are willing to pay a premium for certain accessories, they don't add them unless mandated. Not surprised there're differences between US and Canadian versions especially when there's stronger regulation on DRL in Canada. Beside DRL difference, I think Canadian version SBS (Smart Brake system, at least for 2022) doesn't detect pedestrian while US version is "Advanced" SBS which does. Those aside, I often feel like Canadian versions (not just Mazda) get short-changed. My wife's 2022 Subaru doesn't come with TPMS (but US version does).
Josh, unless your car was made for the Canadian market, you should be able to turn off your daytime running lights. There is a relay in the engine compartment fuse box marked “DRL”. Just pull it out, like a fuse would. Or, there is a way to turn it off by doing a series of flipping the light stalk control and hitting the hazard button while stepping on the brake. When the drl is off, the lights function as described in the manual. On higher trims, the led that surrounds the main lamp (halo) can be turned on with the light control stalk in the parking position. In Auto mode, no lights come on until it is dark enough. If you want the exact process, i can send it to you.Yeah, that’s totally normal for the 2018 CX-5. Mazda’s DRL system is kinda weird compared to other cars. Once the car is in Drive, the DRLs automatically switch to low beams, and there’s no way to have just DRLs on while driving. Even in OFF mode, the lights will still stay on when the car is moving—Mazda designed it that way for safety.
If you really want just DRLs, some people have tried pulling the headlight fuse or modifying the wiring, but that’s a hassle. It’s just how Mazda set it up!"**
This keeps it casual while explaining the situation. Let me know if you want to tweak it!![]()
