Although, I have had my MAZDASPEED on the highway, it has only been for short distances; that is until yesterday. I drove to Camden, TN which is about 120 miles from where I live. I was heading over to a friend of mine's house to install the Blitz Dual, and hard wire my Escort Passport 8500. Approximately 90 miles of it is I-40 toward Nashville.

This car is fantastic on the highway. I reached 110mph on a couple of occassions, but I wanted more. It felt so good. Not a lot of radar setup yesterday, either. At one point, I was coming up on a camper (I was at about 80mph - speed limit 70), in the right lane, and he was behind a semi. I made a move to the left lane; the semi is exiting, and all of a sudden the camper makes a quick decision, and he goes to the left lane right in front of me; I hit my brakes, and you would not have believed the sound the BOV made - like a giant f*$king turkey under my hood!

In this car; it is nothing to downshift to 4th gear at 80mph, and just pull ahead. Good fun! Then; I would typically go to 5th @ 100mph. Okay! So; I'm easily amused :wtf: .

So now: The Blitz is installed, following the sorry ass instructions Blitz (shouldn't even bother to) provide. Plus, we referenced Britt's (122 vega) instructions. The boost gauge is fine, except for one thing; it doesn't display psi?! :bs: It displays kilopascals. Why? I have no clue. Christ! I am a simple man. I have no time for silly conversions. But; I shall deal with it (and learn something new).

We also wired the emergency brake switch. This is in case someone were to try to steal it while it is idling (turbo timer), when the brake is released, the car shuts off, rendering it, obviously un-stealable, since you took the key with you.

Now; it would appear all is well. Like I said; the Blitz instructions aren't good (piss). After the car ran, we shut it off, removed the key. At this time; the Blitz display flashed between red and green lighting as it counts down (which is the length of time the car will idle after you remove the key). Also; if the stereo is on, or the fan switch, these also remain on (at least in my situation). When the timer reaches '0', everything shuts off.

However,,,,,,,for some reason my engine doesn't continue to idle. It shuts off after the key is moved. We think we wired everything correctly; but even after playing with the Blitz, we still cannot get it to 'play fair'.

Any ideas on this, are greatly appreciated.

I have posted some photos of the Blitz display (same location as Britt's), and of the Passport install. I am 6'4", and the display mounted there is really good. Just a glance, and you can see it.

The power wire leading to the Passport 8500 is tucked between the dash and the base of the windshield. So, at the center of the windshield, it comes up the glass to attach to the Passport. Since I am not using the Escort ZR3 Laser Shifter (for ultimate Laser defense - $500), Escort (Passport) recommends keeping the Passport lower on the windshield, so it has a better chance of picking up Laser. Apparently; when Laser is used, it is aimed at the bumper area, and the Laser doesn't break up much over distance; so the lower you have your detector, the better chance you will have of detecting it. The Passport 8500 does detect everything from the front and the rear, by the way. So far; I have not detected any Laser in our area.

Also; And I mention this because music is very close to my heart; Camden, TN is the town where Patsy Cline's airplane crashed on March 5th, 1963. I went to the crash site and took some pictures. If anyone would like to see them; here is my Shutterfly link. In one, you will notice my car. Yesterday March 1st; they were having a Patsy Cline festival in Camden. They have done this for several years now. Patsy Cline was one of the great female vocalists of all-time. The music will live on. Personally; I'm not much into country music, but she was different.

I had that exact problem man, there are 3 wires i think that to the ignition maybe that you can choose from i think it has something to do with that....it is one of those wires....it took the shop awhile cause blitz's instrictions do suck so its trial and error basically. Later

nice read, thanks. I wanna get some money and so that SOME DAY haha.. I have a loan to pay off and im only 17 so.. :wtf:

ARG#7..
Why do you have to wire the TT to the Handbrake incase someone jumps in the car to drive off? Can the keyless entry not work anymore?
The TT only does one task, which is to keep the car running after you park...but i don't see why, you wouldn't lock your locks at the same time when you leave the parking lot?

Apparently; Britt is going to post a way to 'actually' lock the doors when the engine is idling, after you leave it. For me; I will only use the Turbo Timer on occassion. I can look out of my office window at work and activate my alarm. My car is 3 floors below. Yes; that's my MAZDASPEED taking 2-3 parking spaces!! Ha!!
(rofl) (rofl) (rofl)

I like this unit, because it also has the Boost Gauge.

there are 3 wires that you have to catch one that is constant 12v one that is TRUE IGN ( stays at 12v while its being started) and also our cars have a 2nd ingniton( stays 12v in acc and on but not when its being started) also to hook up the alarm when the turbo timer is on so you can walk away and lock you doors you have to take the igniton wire going to the alarm and move it to the "key sence" wire so the alarm thinks the car is off, luckly you dont have to relay this wire as it is already 12v

The will lock when it is idiling, I do it in the morning, let my car warm up 3-5 minutes while I finish getting ready for work, and set the alarm.

is it me or is that little space under the light control begging for controllers and switches like that, maybe a big red nitrous button that says "GO BABY GO!"

Yes; I'm sure a nice place for a nitrous button could be located without too much trouble.

You Greg,

When you (or anyone else who has) opened it up on the expressway, how was the ride? When I get up there at like 70+ MPH, it seems as if the ride quality decreases, almost vibrates too much for me to feel like it's holding like it does at lower speeds. Just wondering if this is normal (it seems to hold on just fine), or if I should take it in and have the alignment checked.

Remember this thread?

get an aligment

100 mph in the mp3, and she's as solid and smooth as can be. I feel very confident in this car at high speeds, even more so then the 325i I got to drive every now and then.

Which BLUE wire did you use...was it the one just under the 2 RED wires and next to the BLACK/WHITE wire, or was it below the BLACK/WHITE wire and next to the BLACK/YELLOW wire (I hope you follow me here...I'll try to explain in a diagram holding the plug so it is two wires wide and three wires tall with the reds at the top)

RED - RED
BLUE - BLACK/WHITE
BLACK/YELLOW - BLUE

the three highlighted wires are the ones I used and everything works good.

if you used the BLUE wire that is not bold, this may be causing your timer to not leave the engine running (not sure though)...it doesn't have 12V in the start position.

Just a thought (I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say)

Thanks! I will check that. Did you wire so you can lock the doors, when the car is idling? That's sounds like a good idea.

I never realized that the little lip type thingy was/could be used for change...learn something new everyday...:)

Yes,,,,,,with the addition of the Blitz in my previous 'change' area, I decided to use it... Actually; that is what that slot is for, I think.

Nope...not sure quite how to do that...I wouldn't know which wire from the alarm to hook up to...but I'm pretty sure I know which wire on the ign. to hook up to.
