i just got my dashhawk today and i'm trying to set it up but i have no idea what half the s*** means on there. i'm a pretty big noob in terms of turbos and really auto stuff in general.

does anybody have recommendations of the more important things to monitor?

also what is the temp i should keep an eye on in terms of when to shut off the engine, when i can go hard on it, etc?

thank you for any advice you can give me.

I would let it warm up before you drive it hard, don't floor it below 3K RPM, let it idle for about 30 seconds before shutting it off. I use Dashhawk's Mazda Specific parameters to monitor Boost/Vacuum, Water Temp, Air/Fuel Ratio, Knock, Fuel pressure, and I have several alerts set up.

Hope that helps.

what temperature should it get to before i can drive it hard? and which parameter measures that?

If you're only on few or no mods at all, you don't have much to worry about. Parameters that DreSEL suggested are good enough.

As far as the temp is concerned, just let the car warm up nicely until that temp gauge goes to the middle.

Keep your eyes on the road and don't worry too much about keeping an eye on the parameters on the DH. That's what logging is for.

Wait till the temp gauge goes to normal operating temperature. Then wait another couple of lights, or about 5 more minutes of driving (not idling). This will ensure the oil is nicely warmed up and lubricating the moving parts of the engine properly. Remember that coolant temp is not indicitave of oil temp. Oil is more viscous and takes longer to warm up and cool down. So let it warm up for a while after an overnight cold start. But that works both ways... if you are in the store for an hour and it's cold out. The coolant temp might dip back down... but the oil could still be fairly warm. So a shorter (not nonexistent) warm up time is needed to get the warm oil flowing again.

Anywho... what questions specifically do you have about using the DH? What terms would you like to know.

i have just been trying to figure out what the most important things to monitor are. i've got fuel pressure, knock retard, boost, AFR, ECT, boost/vacuum on my main screen. anything more important?

The most important things I monitor are boost and A/F. I have a warning light setup for enging knock.

You can really only look at 1 thing at a time when your WOT. And its a good idea to keep your eyes on the road . . . So I would just watch boost. Especially if your only lightly modded.

oh yah when i'm WOT i won't be staring at the Dashhawk. i'm not THAT much of a noob :D

i had 6 params on the main screen but i am gonna go down to 4...too hard to see with 6.

i guess i'm just paranoid about the engine so i want to keep an eye on all that i can (but again i'll log for stuff at WOT).

and yah i'm stock now, soon to install a cobb SRI and there won't be much beyond that besides a turbo inlet and maybe a DP. so i guess it's not a huge issue.

Yea 6 is a bit much on the screen. I have a few set up on mine. Remember you can set up many different displays and change to which ones by pressing the up and down arrows. Like my first setting I have for daily driving I have boost and a/f, my second setting (pressing the down arrow) I have boost, a/f, boost temp, and knock. From 3 and on I have other things I might want to look at.

Does Dashhawk monitor Oil pressure on our cars?

*edit* guess not, was checking through a related thread.
