Dash lights went out

Anyone else have their dash dim while driving? The other day, the gauge cluster and nav screen dimmed and the climate controls went completely black. Everything was dark for about 5 minutes then came back up. Is there some sort of ambient light sensor I'm unaware of?

If it's anything like my 2014 CX5 there is a setting for night, day, and auto. Auto will go dark sometimes at dusk or shaded areas causing the screen to be hard to read.

I was thinking there must be some sort of sensor. I can understand why the nav might go dim, but I didn't expect the climate control to be completely blank. I was on a four lane road in the middle of the day, so it's not like I was in an area where the ambient lighting was changing.
