Dash Camera?

That's awesome, That's where I plan to put the A118 also. I'm going to try to put it up a bit higher so just the top of the lens is right underneath the black dots.

Thanks! Make sure you're watching the onscreen video when you do this, although my lens looks pretty far away from the dots, if I adjust it up a tiny bit the black dots come into view of the camera.

Also, the windshield reflects a decent amount of the dash into the camera view.

I've had the A118 since August and I think it works great. I have it mounted to the left of the rain sensor cover with the camera lens lined up directly below those black dot things. I didn't hard-wire it in, but instead routed the wire through the headliner, and along the passenger pillar, and have it plugged into switched cigarette lighter until I feel comfortable hard-wiring it at some point. I put some electrical tape over the blinking red light because it's annoying while driving, and I know it's on because the screen will stay on for a about a minute after turning the car on. Otherwise, I never notice it while driving.

That looks great! I think these pictures pretty much convinced me the A118 is the way to go.

Can you please share where you bought it from? I see people complaining of a lot of fakes/knock offs for a lot of dash cams.

Hello. I've had Shadow GT680W since April and it works great. I have it mounted with a bracket on the arm of the inside rear-view mirror. Since August, I also have a Mobius mounted in the back, between the headliner and the metal body. It works great, as well. The Shadow GT680W is powered from arm rest socket and the Mobius from the luggage compartment one. All I hope, is that I will never have to use the recorded video to prove my innocence to police and/or insurance company. Keep well and drive safe!

Thanks! I got mine from amazon.com, but you'll want to check out dashcamtalk.com, specifically, this link here that tells you where to get it to avoid getting a knockoff/fake. Even if you're not looking at the A118, definitely check out the site because they have detailed reviews on many dashcams and list the best places to get a dashcam.

I'm new to this, so somebody could explain to me please, the basics of this camera, like how does it work?
Thank you.

If you watch the youtube video posted by nXt on the second post in this thread, it is a very detailed review of the A118 and should answer all of your questions.

You just hook it up... start the car.. and it will start recording. This is just a way for you to provide evidence in case of an accident or something... or just to post some random videos of people cutting you off, near misses, etc.

Dash cam is pretty popular in Asia, Russia, and Europe... Not so common in the US, but starting to see more people use it, especially in more populated Asian area (places in LA/SF, etc.)

I grabbed one in Canada for recording snow related shenanigans. Also pretty sure that any major accident I will be in will not be my fault, so I consider it an investment in my insurance.

Every time you start the car, the recording continues, or the previous recording gets over written?

I bought an A207 dashcam from foxoffer a few months ago. I was looking for a capacitor based camera due to the warm temp here in Hawaii. It's clips onto the back of the rear view mirror and I have it powered via a usb cig adapter located in the center cubby. The cig adapter is switched so it powers the camera when it fire up the engine. It's pretty much a set and forget dashcam. I have a channel on youtube showcasing some vids.

To those that have them mounted not on the mirror itself, advantages/disadvantages of mounting it to the drivers side or the passenger side of our big black plastic sensor housing?

To answer minnesotaarts's question: I have the Urive Shotgun (front and rear) mounted on the driver's side. The main reason is that this cam has some buttons on the back for manual trigger of events. This is useful because the cam saves different conditions (driving normal, driving event, parked event) in different buffers. If I see an event that is not detected as a collision and want it saved in the event space, I press the "manual event" button. This is why it is necessary for me to mount it on the driver's side, behind - but not attached to - the mirror.

I bought the dashcam installation kit this company offers, that plugs into the fuse box in the driver side kick panel. (Plug it into the accessory fuse as described in the How To section for hardwiring the Valentine 1 radar). It's super easy.
