DarkAngel's #771 03.5 MSP is going forged......(Build/Log)

yea...never start a build unless u have all the parts lol
and go take a look at the guy with the auto P5 who has a turbo build thread...cant remember his screen name right now, but he mounted his return on the windage tray, on the side where the belts are i beleive, and its a pretty good place for it

Yea I saw that. I cant recall if this was the same guy I was chatting with on the DocB Section. Wait yes richs970.

i keep hearing about people having issues with their builds...guess im one of the lucky ones so far (knock on wood)

Well I made some progress today although now I am wary to take off the head. The block I could care less about including pistons and crank but the head is what matters. Head looks great but as soon as I took off the cover I found this:

Yup, the bolt broke off the cam gear including the pin and I guess from the shock, it broke one of the shims on Cylinder #4 on the intake side. I am just praying the piston didn't make contact with the valve or head. Anyways off to sleep. All the journals were great though so no damage there including the cam surfaces.

Forgot to update my thread!

It doesn't look real bad but the valves are bent open. Piston is rotated 90 deg in the cylinder and wont budge lol. Oh well all new parts are going in anyways on the donor. I am still debating whether to open the trans and have the LSD welded at the weak points unless it already is. I wish there was an easyier way to tell.

Sad to say, I sold my Extra B18C1 Longblock ( GSR Motor ) to get this project going and finally towards the finish line. I really didn't want to let it go but I care more about this car than the engine. I want to have fun with this MSP so it was a sacrifies I was willing to make.

On a happier note, a new package arrived from CHI (Cylinder Heads International) ! I remember seeing a members post of buying a rebuilt head from them. Called them up and they had one with my casting (FS9) in stock. Great bunch of folks, really helpful and communication was awesome! Just have to send my head back to them with the prepaid label to give them a core. Head looked beautiful and brand new! So excited. I just need a few odds and ends including a newerturbo and I am set to put her together!

glad to see progress. also glad to see you went with CHI. they were the quickest and cheapest option for me. 320 shipped for a rebuilt head? yeah cant beat that.

Well I have not been able to get anything done on the Build. I will hopefully start putting the motor together by this weekend and possibly have the motor in as well. I wanted to wait to get a newer turbo on there before we started but that may have to wait for now. Will have update pictures as soon as my bro and I get going on the build.

Some new updates available. Well I still don't have this motor together yet. Bro and I managed to find a GT2560R Turbo for cheap and in great condition. Took measurements to confirm it was the Turbo Garrett was claiming it to be equivalent to and have to say they are right. This turbo came from a twin turbo 1JZ Supra, one of the T3G twins. Measurements are as pictured. Exhaust Housing is stamped with an AR.49.

Here are some pics:

I am going to use this turbo as a replacement to my GT2554R as my stock turbo needs a rebuild. By looking at it the Compressor Wheel is a bit larger than my stock one. I am going to adapt the turbo as it has a different compressor housing design but the turbine intlet flange is a T25 flange and the CHRA is water/oil cooled as well just like mine including the 5 bolt also fits right on as well.

You can even use the turbine housing off of your 2554. The wheel should fit, then you don't have to deal with a smaller A/R on the housing. Same spool up but more capacity for boost. Unless you want the faster spool but possibility of choking out at the top end.

Haha what top end? JK. I was going to try and separate the 2554 but it just wouldn't let me. All bolts out and it still wouldn't budge. I will try later but by the looks of it they are not interchangeable. If it does its almost basically a Disco Potato or a 2860R.
