Damn NE winter...I hope it's totaled!!!

I never had all season tires on my car.never wrecked. had some rough times in snow though. I am in the same boat with him, wishing God will strike my car down thanks to the msp's super resale value.

Ahhh...yes...finally someone who can join my alliance in wishing this car would blow up. How do you know that I didn't have decent tread on there when I wrecked? This is exactly what these tire companies want to see...people buying into their BS about, "this tire is soooooo much better...blah...blah."

The MSP stock Rubber is the Worst tire ever in the snow..even in a dusting....But I got by for two winters on them..just got to know how to drive.

I reckon your young and you can learn to drive with some skill one day too.

Damn, you just don't know a thing about tires do you?
It has NOTHING to do with how much tread you have.

My brand ass new STi was USELESS in the snow even with all wheel drive on stock rubber. Its all about the amount of cuts in the tread pattern. The less treads, the less traction and a high performance tires has very few groves to reduce friction and improve handling.

Yah, maybe if we are talking one extreme to another (like the stock STI tires). I had snow tires on my M3 at one point. WASTE of money. Again, driving cautiously and being aware is good enough. Plus I mean in the 5 snow storms we had last winter...in which I only had to drive in three, thats not worth the extra money for tires. But I definately didn't have summer/sport tires on there. As for being to young, I didn't think 25 was young. I don't care if you spend $1,000,000 on tires...there are just some situations where you have absolutely no control over. Like the morons that think they can do 100mph in a blizard because they have four-wheel drive. So in my mind spending more money on a car I absolutely hate is just not going to happen.

I agree with you to a point on the tires however its just like rain some tires grip in it and others don't. If you do drive carefully you SHOULD be fine but then again whats a few extra bucks for a set of tires to ensure you dont slide off the road.

I know like you stated their are situations where you can't control the morons around you but you can control yourself and how you drive. As far as everyone sayign better tires would of prevented this it all depends on what you hit. Black Ice well good luck because no matter what tire you have your going to slide off the road. I've slide off the road with snow tires with studs due to black ice.

HOWEVER I was able to get back on the road due to the snow tires in my old FWD car.

Black ice is the death...there is nothing out there that you can do once you are overcome by it. Honestly, people get so caught up in BS that they end up wasting there money on their cars. I mean I hit (what I believe) to be a patch of ice...snow tires/super-duper winter tires/chains/a tank...nothing would of helped me out at that point.

Well..Les see....

No snow tires (or All season) = Wreck
Wreck= Repair Bill

Yup..your NOT gonna spend another dime on that damn car you hate soo much...

Snow tires wouldn't have prevented s***. Please...s*** happens that you just can't control. Well, if I had snow tires I could have reached Mach 1...right.

Again I do agree with you that tires wotn help you in every situation however they HELP if you have the right kind of tires and arn't driving around like a mad man. (Not saying that you were)

Edit: I seriously doubt your car will be totaled over the little damage I can see fromt he pictures. Get it fixed then trade it if you want on a used car and take the hit.

acouple years ago I wrecked my 4x4 ranger with big knobby tires in a light dusting. I was turning onto a side street that was dusted. my rear end went around and I slammed into a pole. I was only going about 20. I have driven my msp with summer tires in the snow and never wrecked. it all depends on how safe you feel in your car when there is snow on the ground. in my ranger I figured I couldnt be stopped. in my car I was very cautious

^^^ Wide tires = teh suckage in snow

I assume that's probably why you last it. I have 245/50s on my 86' Toyota and it sucks driving even with just the slightest amount of snow on the ground. Ever wonder why winter steelies are always like 15x6 or something? Thinner tires focus the cars weight on smaller contact surfaces - helps friction and therefore traction. But I agree, once you hit ice you're pretty much screwed depending on how fast you are going. I dinged my pickup quite some years back because I hit black ice and I was only going like 15 mph. I slid for so long I even had time to throw the truck in reverse (tires were already locked) and mash the gas that way!

To the OP, I think the reason most people got on you is because of your comments about your MSP. This is a Mazda forum so it's pretty obvious that most people here will take offense to negative comments towards Mazdas.

you do understand snow tires probably would have been much better as they are still soft in cold temperatures so they provide grip as well as having real deep tread. with stock tires at temps that cold they were probably hard as rocks and would slide faster than a hockey puck on ice. Even if you had decent tread it doesn't mean you wouldn't have slid, its just the fact you had hard tires cause of the wrong tires in the wrong temps. now lets hear it from all those that use stock tires in the winter with no problems, you might not have problems but it isn't safe.

oh and i am glad you are ok but that is just shear stupidity to dent your car out of frustration.

You have a point about my bashing of the MSP. Look I like the way the car looks, but other than that I hate it. I've had nothing but problems since day one. Maybe I just got "the pick of the litter." I'm trying to enjoy this experience and like my car...but damn is it nearly impossible.

you should have went to the junk yard picked up a beater and rammed into the msp. then drive/towed the beater away. then your car would have been totalled.

"Not to mention that I have NO idea why you're buying cars for your girlfriends. And that I also have no idea why you think it's okay to be driving the MSP on stock wheels with what I assume to be stock tires. Hell, even if the tires are 'all season', that's still not appropriate for NH. I live in PA, and I have sets of both winter and summer shoes."

bahahahahahaha totally made my day

BTW, NE is nothing compaired to what i deal with on a daily basis
