I can't believe I did this. I was at a friends farm four-wheeling and watching fireworks when it started to rain. We made it back to the barn and I quickly assesed that all my windows were up. The ass then fell out of the sky for about 20 minutes or so. One hour later I went to get into the 3 and leave and I realized my sunroof was open the entire time. Everything was soaked. I have water dripping on me from my A pilar. I got most of the water up last night. Today I got in and turned everything on and went for a ride. Everything works still. I feel very lucky. Tomorrow I will strip the interior and CLEAN! I park in a parking garage so my windows are down all day today.

Any suggestions?

Damn that reaks, I am ususlly always really paranoid about not having closed the windows or locked the doors.
 
Airing the car out is one of the best things to do..

Also, I would suggest vacuuming the carpet good using a wet vac and get as much out of the seats as possible..

I sympathize with you, I left the sunroof open one day and ended up with a wet drive home from work... I have since made a point not to do that again.. (freak)

Ugh. (eek2) Sorry to hear that, buddy... Although I haven't any suggestions other than whats been said, I still wanted to let you know I sympathise.

I think I've left my sunroof open in every car I've owed, at least once. Those occasions turned out okay, as I'm sure yours will too.

Dude, get all the water up you can, and then just let it air out. This guy I know did this with his Protege last year, and nothing smells. (The "guy I know" was really me)

aww that sucks man..it rained over here too on the 4th and i put all 4 of my windows slightly down cuz my leather burns my ass when its in the sun..it suddenly rained too and i ran fast as hell to close them..hopefully you dont get that moldy smell in your car.

Thanx for all the sympathy. I left the windows cracked all day in the parking garage. When I got in the passenger seat was still wet while the rest of the car was pretty dry, but in need of some serious love. I will leave the car in the garage overnight and wet vac it in the morning. Hopefully there will be no lasting effects. Hope you all had a good (and dry) July 4th.

Whew....

Just got done cleaning the inside after "the flood" By leaving the windows down for the past 48 hours most of the car was dry. I got up this am, pulled alll the mats, left the doors and roof opened all day in the sun. The only real wet spot was under the driver and passenger seats. I spent extra time in there w/ the wet vac. Overall, I'm feeling pretty lucky.

The irony in the whole story is that I for-went getting the stick because it didn't have a sunroof and I really wanted one. Now I'm really kick myself in the ass...I should have gotten the f-in' stick. I would have had more fun and a dry car.

On the way to work, this little Civic (98-ish) with a wet-fart-in-a-coffee-can-muffler tried to pass me before his lane merged into mine, so I stepped it up just enough to stay ahead. I saw him laughing with his buddy, obviously feeling confident that he could beat me if he really tried. Next light pulls up along side, light turned green, never even had a CHANCE! Poor bastard, saw him at the next red light - he pulled in behind me. LOL!

Glad to hear it's worked out for you! No lasting effects?

I've got an interior issue too. I made a cigarette burn in the fabric on the A-pillar. I've left a post in the All Mazda - Interior sections hoping for a fix. If my wife sees it, well.. let's just my ass will be grounded. One good thing: the couch is closer to the computer! Hehehe

Got an idea. This works on carpet in the house so I'm not sure this will work but anyhow. Try scavenging a piece of fabric from a non-conspicous area. Using a Emer's glue it dries clear) apply the scavenged piece to the burn using the glue and let dry. Again Bart, I haven't done this in a car so may want to try it in a place that no ne will see first or consult an upolsterer. Good luck.

That's a good idea! It sounds doable - I'm going to do a little looking around at the headliner, see what I can figure out. I'll probably take it to the pros first, to see what they say... I'm not entirely positive I could patch it myself, and still make it look nice.

I hear yah. While I think that not smoking in a car is definately going to be a difficult habit to rid myself of, I have at least lessened the amount for now, which will lower the chances of other tragedies occurring :)
