Dammit! Tree fell on my new Mazdaspeed3!

Yeah I'm sure my insurance will cover everything (minus deductible), I have home and auto insurance with Erie, through a local agent. I hate insurance but this is one of those times it's good to have it.

I don't think I'll have any trouble getting the insurance to believe it, we had lots of winds and fires here yesterday as a result, one 400 acre fire is still burning this morning. Well I'm off to the insurance office, hopefully it ain't full of people filing claims.

man...i'm sorry to hear about your car...:( that really sux, but in the end, s*** happens...=/ i hope things get fixed up properly, because the damage honestly doesn't look insanely bad. fortunately, it looks mostly cosmetic, unless i'm just not seeing something important...

Yeah, it's cosmetic but widespread. Roof, windshield, hood, front bumper, both rear fenders (which I never noticed are actually one continuous piece of metal connected to the metal that goes the length of the edge of the roof.) Probably 2/3 of the car's body is affected. I guess if I get all the panels replaced with brand new ones and a quality paintjob it would be ok.

Thank you for global warming. Maybe our children wont have to deal with pesky trees falling on their 2018 MS3. lol.

Good luck man with the insurance. I say you claim a gorilla escaped from your local zoo and did that to your car. Just dont tell mama.

ouch...i see your problem now...that's a LOT of body work...=/

And it wasn't a Ficus. Sorry bad time for humor. Sux to see hopefully insurance will cover it 4 you.

OP, i live in NJ and we had these winds too. I was very worried about it...

at any rate, the best suggestion i can think is just make sure it goes to the best shop YOU want it to go to, even if it's a hair out of the way. having a quality shop with good personnel is the best bet for you because as much as you want to believe that it won't be the same...something like this can be repaired in a totally undetectable manner IF the right shop and people tackle it. it's different than a collision where there are great forces at work to distort unseen things.

if you are unsure about what shops...ask around, research hard, see who's repairing the high line cars in the area(s), etc.

i feel your pain and i'm sorry to see this happen, but also remember that down the line, you will have the car, driving back home with it detailed fresh from the body shop and it'll be all new again. hard to imagine now, but it'll be fine!

I don't mind a joke but I don't get the Ficus joke.... /whoosh

It was an insurance company comercial, I think alstate. A tree fell on a guys car and he called to file a claim and the guy on the phone told him with his low low rate the only claims that would be covered involving trees would be if a ficus fell on his car.

You have the mother of all driveways too. Looks like you have plenty of places to park your car.
It's been very windy in Houston, I've had stuff hit my car while driving because of it, but i race home and park in the underground covered garage.
I'll miss that when I get a house.

i woulda left the tree on it.... as far as the insurance company is concerned they shoulda sent someone out to SEE THAT THE tree fell onto it... i mean there is no reason for you to cut a tree on ur ms3.... but yea def gay as hell that that happened if the insurance company denies you (eekfu) and id get a new drinking problem :) (drinks)

I thought about that but I had to get the tree off to see the extent of the damage.

I'm good, the adjuster came out and no questions asked. It's pretty obvious that's what happened, there's little branches and s*** all over the car dents on the roof, and a split Maple tree right behind the car with the split off part on the ground behind it.

I should find out what the estimate is tomorrow. I'm guessing $7,000 and I'll probably be without it for a month.

If you started missing it really badly, I can let you watch me drive mine. :)

That's no fun! I wanna drive! (poke)

Oh well, it'll be sweet when it's back. I get a rental something tomorrow morning, don't know what it will be yet. Hopefully something halfway interesting.

With that being said, see if Erie has any direct repair facilities that will guarantee the work. Im an adjuster and we have network shops that guarantee the work...right down the paint work. I would highly recommend it. If not, find a shop that guarantees their own work, a good refinish isn't easy to come by, to be honest. It really is an art

Sorry about the bad luck
