It can be a lot of things but one thing that comes to mind is the engine immobilizer. What was the status of the car prior to this? Did you do anything?

I know how it feels not to have the car. When I had my remote starter installed, the engine immobilizer screwed up so my car was taken to the dealershit and I didnt have the CX7 for 3 friggin days.

Well, hope everything will be ok. I know warranty will take care of it but it is still a hassle. Update us

right now, i just want this car to work. its pretty plain n simple. get it to work. when parts are on backorder, without even a shipping date, and i cant drive the car cuz u never kno if it will turn off while driving, it just sucks flat out. ill kno on monday - estimated "pick up" if this thing survives the weekend being driven by the tech.

just my overall opinion right now given the bazillion people getting check engine lights, mysterious flashes, the imrc, the random misfire codes - just leads me to believe there is something greater than just a fix going on with this engine. Most of you who havent had a more serious problem besides the check engine light i feel like are just getting the good piece of cake. i got a bad one. Ive got all the check engine lights everyone else has, except they have become actual serious problems, not just a nagging tech issue. this car has somethin going on in it - i just dont mean my car, i mean the 2007 7 in general, the check engine light is almost a given in every single manufactured 7 -that is my opinion. check engine lights just dont fire off all the time when everything is okey dokey under the hood. i just got stuck with a s*** car.

Is this true? I mean I've read about a few probs but that would be standard I think in a new series car. But is everyone having these problems? Australian delivered one's too?

You've sure had sh!tty luck and I feel for you... but most of the "Check engine" lights were related to the gas cap issue, IRC. Check engine doesn't necessarily indicate anything wrong "under the hood", it can be something as "harmless" as a gas cap that doesn't fit properly. All first-year vehicles have teething issues, we all knew that going in. And just as well, you'll find lemons among any make and model cars. If my car did what you're going through right now, I'd be mad as hell. But it still wouldn't mean all these cars are bad.

FWIW, 8k miles on mine and still no check engine light (it had 800 miles on it when I bought it, so I can't vouch for that time). Watch it come on tomorrow, LOL!

1st yr model really doesnt fly with me. we all obvioously know, buying first year u may inherit some decent problems. However, i have never in my life of buying cars (Nissan, Honda, Acura, Toyota etc) ever encountered check engine lights or a scenario such as with the cx7. and that is a fact. regardelss of whether or not the engine light is just a goof - its still an engine light and u never mess with it. also, the gas cap trigger was true, at least in the beginning, but a majorit of people who have replaced the gas cap under recall or their own power have had recurrent check engine lights (which they thought were initially gas cap related, but in fact are not.)

im not trying to instill fear in a cx7 owners or would be owners, imy just trying to make sense of this cars pretty IMPACTFULL fault (check engine lights) and my 1st light came on at 680 miles, and was not gas cap related.

in regards to your concerns, i have absolutely no clue about aussie models but i will just say, and dont take it the wrong way, that if ur check engine light comes on, dont take it as a shock. and also, dont worry about it either, my case is a pretty extreme one.

ok guys i got my car back today!!! It was the engine inmobilizer , they change the battery for a brand new one and they check all the things, wow big difference now, thank god it wasn't nothing important!!! they change the oil etc.... Well im happy now !!! For you mike1981 i feel you you better get a new car or do something i hope mazda is paying you the last 2 months you didn;t have your cx-7! They payed me when my msp engine blown !!!

Had the same problem. Walked up to the car after school, nice day, so I held unlock to roll the windows down and open the sunroof. Feelin' pretty sweet, get in.... No start. So after 20 minutes (feeling like a dumbass sitting in the parking lot with my windows down, just chillin') I called my mazda dealer. He told me to jiggle the wheel and turn ignition at the same time. After a few tries, it started right up. Yeah, pissed me off. Maybe the issue?

I knew it was the engine immobilizer. Just wondering what could have tripped it to malfunction?
