Daedalus Winter Update '06 Photo Thread *No 56k*

that brings up a good point.... IS there any good way to wash it without draining it all down into your engine bay??

Next time i'm going to put a couple strips of Blue Painters tape along the opening and a nice big towel underneath incease a couple drops get through.

Same thing for long drives on the highway. As with any open air hood, your engine bay will get dusty as all hell, so if your going on a long trip, tape her up and cut down on the dust that will be sucked into you bay.

What does it do exactly that would give you these huge gains?

Same thing as the QTP, without the extra cost.

Everything was 155 shipped, and the owner is a really cool guy, contacted me minutes after payment, made sure that i had everything i needed, and the cutout arrived like 2 days later. A+ in my book.

Ok so you didn't had any exhaust modification so far.

The idea is growing on me now... damm! You're gonna make me spend money.

I have a GHL 3" catted DP which goes down to a 2.6" JIC SUS Catback. So we are going to weld in this cutout where the stock cat is so i'll get decent gains when its closed by removing the cat, and when this puppy opens, there will be very little restriction because it wont have to be shoved through 10 feet of smaller diameter piping, and it can just fly directly out.

The QTP Brand cutout (Same thing, different brand) made 20whp on a stock SRT-4, and 30WHP on a WRX. So there are massive gains to be had here, at the flip of a switch!

Aren't you worried about heat building under the car? I mean, normaly heat goes out at the tip of the silencer but with that cutout the heat will stay under the car... just wondering if that would be an issue.

car is lookin hot bro. you took your hood to the mazda dealer to get it painted right? how much did that run? ive been wanting to get my cf hood painted since i got it.

myself, discreetspeed and citizenpro (all here in houston)are all running with a cutout and have been for some time. Equinox was too. the only heat issue we've had is the floor on the passange side can get a tad warm at times. but never like really hot or anything. mainly on long trips.

Ok so basically the fix would be to install a custom heat shield where the cutout is to keep the heat off the car's floor... humm sounds like a fun project (evil)

yeah i guess so. i mean the heat wasn't really that bad IMO. just barelly warm. you could tell thats where the exhaust came out. me and citizenpro did have a small heat shield welded in front of the O2 sensor since our cutouts push the air right in front of it.

yes sir.......i love my Flowtech Cutout (thumb) Mp3architect and I replaced the first cat with the cutout, and turned it toward the passenger side......there isnt any room toward the driver side, and we leaned it down as far as we could to the left, without it hitting the ground or getting scraped. So its only like a half an inch lower than the front member brace......in my opinion is the best & safest bang for the buck mod u can do besides a boost controller :)

Btw, you can actually have this cutout open at all times and NOT get a CEL (rei) .....u will get one if you close it though, takes about an hour or so of driving for it to come on.

Car looks great Daedalus (thumb) let us know how you like the cutout and the sweet turbo spool your going to hear (rockon)

Then I'll just order Non-Foulers from autozone and that'll do the trick (rockon)

Good info guys, i havent gotten under the car to see how it will fit yet, but from the sounds of it, it will be opening to the passenger side. As far as the heat build up, I really am only on planning to open the puppy for a race or when i really want the extra power. So its not like i'm gonna run all night long with it open, though i'm sure I will a couple of times once i get addicted to the sound its gonna make.

We will probably end up fabbing some sort of metal sheild onto the bottom of the car just to be safe.
