CX-9 Shifter Trim Plate

Hi-

Anyone know how to remove the decorative shifter trim plate off the center console of a 2010 CX-9? I'm talking about the trim plate around the shifter lever. Sometimes my CX-9 gets stuck in Park, and I can't move it. I told the dealer, and he told me I spilled coffee down there and that I need to replace the shifter module because it wouldn't be covered under warranty. Well, I want to see for myself, but I don't want to break the trim plate.

Just pull the black surround it is attached to straight up. It pops right out.

Again- the black *surround*... not the silver plate itself. That is attached to the surround.

George, what happened with your shifter? I have experienced the same thing and dealer will not cover under warranty due to supposed spill. Thx.
