Well, I got the cross bars free from the dealership and decided that I'll buy aftermarket roof rails (didn't do enough research of course). Apparently,looks like OEM rails are the only option available. Just wondering if anyone has pointer to a non-oem rail which fits the cx-9. If I need to buy an OEM rail, which is the recommended website ? I looked into mazdagear.com and mazdaparts.org. They are offering at $339 and $319 respectively (including shipping+tax). Is this the best price to expect ? Also, how easy is to install them w/o having to go to the dealership or a local mechanic ?
That's a fact. And to add to that, if you opt for "flat" bars or wide "Aero-style" bars (like the Thules), you will probably end up with crossbars that slightly angle forward or back. This happens because the Mazda roof slopes so much (and the factory rails do as well). The wider the crossbars are separated, the more tilt that is introduced.
So when you try to carry a truly flat load, like boxes or wide lumber, you'll likely notice some wonkey angles and gaps.
Some of the aftermarket aerodynamic crossbars bars, (like the Thules), also have a slight end-to-end curve built in to them for load-bearing strength. It's noticeable, but nothing like the factory crossbar curve though.

Hi, I am looking for the Mont Blanc aero cross bars for my Copper red 2011 CX-9. Any recommendation for where to purchase & how much I should expect to pay for them ? I got my roof rails from MazdaParts.org based on recommendations provided here and would like some guidance for the crossbars too. Also if folks could provide a part number or model number so I dont get the wrong one I would appreciate it. Thanks!
I am interested in getting the OEM roof rails as well looked at the same sites as you did. Did you go ahaed with your purchase and install?
Is $330 the price point that i would be looking at for this?
Also anybody has mounting DIY instructions for these?

The lowest price I've seen so far is $303 in eBay. Its been offered by a mazda dealer based out of LA. I'm thinking of purchasing that, but bit apprehensive on the installation part.Mounting instructions are available in Mazdaparts.org and also at the begining of this thread.
I just ordered Suzuki Accessories OEM SX4 Roof Rack Cross Bars from ebay. I was looking at the specs and Suzuki ones are also made by Mont Blanc. It's $148 shipped. I will let you know once I get it if it fits our roof rail
I got Mont Blanc branded aero bars and they fit fine. I got a Suzuki branded barracuda bike carrier and it works great. The only concern with the SX4 rack is that that car may be narrower than the CX-9. While there is some adjustment for width in the rack, that rack may not be able to fit a car as wide as the CX-9. I'm curious to hear if this works. If not, and you want to go the Suzuki route, the Grand Vitara rack may be wider.
Actually, I checked the prolinerack.com website where there is a fit guide for the MontBlanc Aerowing (MB3747-AW) and the model numbers & all other details are the same between the Mazda CX-9 & Suzuki SX4. So if we know for sure that SX4 uses Mont Blanc crossbars as OEM then we can be certain that it will work. From the pictures on the suzuki website it looks like it. However, cant say for sure. Good to know. Mont Blanc racks and accessories are available as Suzuki, VW and Audi branded items and are priced in that order.
We bought a new 2012 couple weeks ago. I'm on the fence about adding the OEM roof rails. I have still the 52" Thule cross bars and the Yakima carrier we used on our Passat Wagon. Not sure the crossbars will be wide enough. And, I'm afraid our top carrier will be too high and unwieldy to use really for luggage on long trips.

I just don't know if I want to permanently alter the look & feel of the new CX-9 by adding roof rails that I will only use less than 2 weeks of out-of-town traveling each year. So, may stick to a trailer hitch and hitch carrier solution.
I have a Yakima Skybox. It's pretty tall. I mount it on Mont Blanc Aero Bars mounted to the factory rails. It definitely sits up pretty high. Garages are out of the question. Still, you see these boxes on Yukons, etc. all the time and they must be riding more than a foot higher than on the CX-9. Other than garages I haven't had a problem going anywhere else. (On my old Legacy GT I could fit in garages with the box.) The factory crossbars sit a couple inches lower than the Mont Blancs (or any 3rd party system) so if you're concerned about height, that might be the way to go.
Just a note. With the OEM rails you are adding a couple inches to the car. Once you add raised crossbars and kayak/bike/storage attachments, you will have problems getting into many covered parking garages. Maybe even your one at home.
So if you don't want to be slowed down while shopping, going to the doctors, business meetings, etc, choose the low profile OEM crossbars or buy a system that is easily removable.
