CX-5 Resale?

:
2013 Mazda CX5, 2003 Mazda Protege5
I went into ford to look at getting an st and their appraisal came back horrifically low. I thought they were just bull shitting me so I walked out and went to another dealership, but they gave me the same value.

2013 sport AWD w/ touchscreen 17,000 miles and they both came back with 16,500.

They said they were going off Mannheim recent sales. Is this normal? Should it really have depreciated almost 10k after one year?

Wholesale vs. retail?

Put it on Craig's List. We got $4500 more than the dealer offered on our Ridgeline.

A pre-owned CX-5 sold privately should be an easy sell. They're still hot potatoes right now.

16.5K is pretty wretched, but hell, that's more than I still owe on mine. I'd take it if I were in a real pickle.

yup... sell it yourself

Problem is, if you sell it yourself and then buy another car, you'll pay taxes on all of it. Sell it to a stealership and you'll get credit for the amount of the trade.

Shop around on different stealerships, do it online. Select different ones based on the car you'll looking for and take the best deal.
You might be able to get more, then you won't have to pay taxes on it. Just my two cents.

Also, do it on the last Monday of the month, the stealerships are desperate.

Lastly, don't forget to wash your vehicle and make it look decent before you take it in. Be willing to walk away if the number is not right.
I done it so many times, believe me it works.

Also, I only buy Hondas, Subarus or Toyotas because, they retain their value.

.

In California and some other states, you pay sales tax on price of new car (all of it) with or without a trade, sales tax is not based on the price net of trade.

sell it on CL, as for resale value, stick with Honda and Toyota, I know few people do that because of resale, but there is no fun driving those cars during ownership, but that is just me. I keep my car a long time so it never bugs me that much.

from kbb.com, tradein value depends on condition

fair 15,136
good 16,986
very good 17,686
excellent 18,036

car dealer's job is to get your car as cheaply as possible.

part of the problem will be the 2013s got slammed as being under-powered. sport is the base model, too. that always hurts resale. check autotrader.com and see how many are for sale in your area. that may give you more insight.

Yes, specifically we really are talking about is "trade-in value"

Dealers try to get away with murder on trade ins. They offered me less than 1/2 of private party sale value for my 2007 Civic. I laughed at offer and took Civic out of the deal. Will sell it myself.

Used value varies much. Kelly Blue Book is rigged for dealers (www.kbb.com). NADA is middle of the road (www.nada.com). Edmunds is skewed for the consumer (www.edmunds.com). I totally ignore Kelly and rely on the other two.

Carmax doesn't haggle. You pay what is on the sticker, or you don't buy.

And it will be a $29,998 boat anchor until they reduce the price drastically, which is what will happen. At this point it's the asking price.
