i just posted a picture
hey everyone. well, i've had my cx-5 for about a month now, and i'm really growing to like it.
my reason for posting today is to let everyone know about the curt hitch.
i just installed it on my cx-5 the other day, and it looks great. everything but the 1 1/4" receiver is hidden under the bumper cover, and there is no need to cut anything. the installation was very easy (i have wrestled 6 of these things on various cars now).
the only thing i screwed up was the removal of the bumper hangars... leave them hanging on the car, not the exhaust - otherwise, you won't be able to get them back on when the hitch is in place. other than that, the curt hitch went on very easily - just fishwire 4 bolts & plates, then bolt up the hitch.
hope this helps.
Just ordered the 1.25" class ii curt hitch with a hitch lock for less than $130 shipped. Much better than the $237 invoice price my dealer was extending to me for the OEM class I hitch. Install looks pretty easy. Now to find a good 4-bike rack.
I have this one, I can't speak highly enough about it. Its amazing.

Yeah, $400 is a bit steep. I just need it to go riding with my 7-yr old daughter once every couple of weeks. I'm not a hardcore rider.
Rack Attack has the Yakima Bighorn for $144. That looks like it might be good enough.
That $400 rack looks pretty dang nice, though!
I got it for like 300. But yeah u get what u pay for. Taking it camping is awesome as you can easily open the hatch with the bikes attached. The tilting ones can be hard for females to push back up when loaded with bikes.
I dont use this on my mazda, use the wifes sorento with the hitch. Id consider a hitch for the mazda if someone makes a 2" one though.
