CX-5 Cabin air filter on Amazon?

Some luxury vehicles have TWO filters .... that costs you double.

My dealer said they were changing my cabin air filter when they did my complimentary 15k mile service on my '19 diesel last week. I told them okay, but I want my o.e. filter back. I tried to explain that the o.e. filter had activated charcoal in it and I would rather they just leave it alone and not even change it because they're gonna put a cheap "mazda value" line filter in. Service manager insisted it will be replaced with the exact mazda part that is in the car now. I knew it wouldn't be. It wasn't.
I did get the o.e. filter they pulled out back. I put it right back in and the "mazda value" filter back in it's box and on the shelf.

Walmart have regular promos on this one - in the physical stores. You can price match when you get to the store usually if the store price is not updated to the web.
I used to get it for my previous cars but not for the cx5 due to the cx5 asthmatic air flows by design
and with a bit restricted filter gets even worse for me. but it is a good filter overall at least for cars that dont have such cheap AC systems like the mazda.

I just changed mine for the first time this past weekend.

I don't understand why people even consider using the dealership for service.
My goal is to drive off the lot after purchasing the vehicle and NEVER come back.
I only begrudgingly bring it back for recalls & TSBs.
It's not even remotely worth the time/hassle, even if the service is "complimentary".
DIY all routine maintenance if possible.
Or find yourself a good independent shop that won't treat you like an idiot.

Mazda Cabin Filter Comparison
Went to Mazda dealer yesterday and took more pictures on 2016.5 CX-5's new charcoal cabin filter from factory, Mazda genuine non-charcoal cabin filter with P/N KD45-61-J6X, and Mazda Value Products non-charcoal cabin filter with P/N KD45-61-J6X-MV. From the comparison picture below we can see the picture you posted earlier is Value Products with white plastic frame instead of black. Value Products cabin filter is about $10 cheaper than Mazda Genuine Parts on list price.

Meh, each to his own I guess. I agree with you in theory. In my case, the dealership is less than 10 min away. It's not much hassle at all for me to take it to them, chat it up with my salesman for a half hour. Look at new mazdas and head out with a fresh oil change. I have them trained pretty well to just change the oil and filter and not mess with anything else on my 16.5 touring. (I get $9.95 oil change for life). I'm certainly a DIY kinda guy and have the skill/time/equipment to do most things at home and I do but at $9.95 for the 16.5 and free for the '19 diesel, I can't beat the price doing it myself.
The diesel oil and filter is about $60 bucks and I'll be happy to let them change it 4x for free
. It'll get 2 (cheap-o) cabin air filters, engine air filter and a fuel filter as well for it's 30k miles of free maintenance. I'll take free maintenance as long as it's done right. Also, with reliability an unknown for the '19 US diesel, I like it better that mazda themselves inc. is handling the service for now while under warranty.The dealership has a new (to them) service manager and he hasn't quite figured me out yet. He's been entertaining though lol

For me, no amount of cheap or "free" service is worth going to the dealership.
I'd rather buy the materials and do it myself versus...
- Drive 20 minutes round trip to the dealership
- Wait around for 30-90 minutes while having to schmooze with salesmen
- Let a 20 year old noob (making minimum wage) service my vehicle
- Listen to the service advisor treat me like a complete idiot and lie to my face.
(which is exactly what they did to you, NathanH, and many others)
I have no desire to "train the service staff pretty well" and have zero confidence the job will be "done right" by the dealership grease monkeys.
But given you have the diesel, I might do the same as you, and take it to the dealer until the warranty ends.
Although I've done the last 2 oil changes myself, for the first 5 years while under powertrain warranty it went to the dealer.The price wasn't too much more than buying the oil and filter myself and I didn't have to make a trip to dispose of the old oil.And I saw it as a plus if a powertrain warranty problem occurred.Was especially nice in winter and always got a decent car wash to boot.And they checked a bunch of stuff.So it wasn't all bad and they were decent people and competent for what they did including a few recalls/TSB.I DID NOT let them do other service though.Way too pricey.

The information on OEM cabin filters is incorrect. OEM cabin filter KD45-61-J6X (non-value products) is NOT charcoal activated.The same as all the others.

So is there a correct part for the factory charcoal activated one?
PP-T20 MP111KD47 doesnt seem to reveal an actual part number in my Google foo thus far.
