CX-5 Brake job mess up, can anyone help?

Hi everyone,

Hi my name is Thanh, this is my first Mazda CX5 AWD GT 2016.5-2017

I am doing my first brake job.

I did research before start working on the brake but apparently i did not do a good job at searching.

Here is what happen if anyone have the same experience please help me out.

I put on Maintenance Mode while the car jack up. 😅
Then the piston came out…i bought a rebuilt caliper.🥹
Put the new caliper and bleed fluid. 😭

Then i do some testing:

  1. Drive the car around - all good, no noise
  2. Jack up the rear and test the wheel, they all turn very freely. Then bring the car down and apply EPB, the wheel does not move. Turn off EPD, wheel start turn freely. ( when apply EPB or release it i can hear the sound of the motor working) 😂

The problem is when i release the EPB, there are 2 lights on the screen. The Brake system warning indication is flashing and the Electric Parking Brake warning Indication is on.

( those lights will gone if i turn the engine off for 1 mins, then turn back on) 😅

If you put the EPB in Maintenance Mode, how did the piston fall out of caliper? Did you turn the piston? How did you get a “rebuild” rear EPB caliper as I don’t know if you can find any “aftermarket” “rebuilt” EPB caliper.

Did you check the lot no. / date code on the original calipers? I’d get new updated OEM calipers if the date code on calipers is earlier than 9/7/2016.

And if you ibelieve d Ed
locking up.

And if you believe everything you’ve done was correct, try to exit and enter Maintenance Mode” several times and see.

Same question: How did the piston come out?
The only way that happens is if you entered maintenance mode AFTER you removed the pads and caliper.
Can you give more details?
