excellent!! tell us what you did!! please

well it was pretty easy but alot of labor ...

first i looked up everything on fiberglassing ... and ignored most of it ...
everything i saw said to do the work in the car ... i dont know about you all but i dont want that crap in my car ...

so i pulled out the inside pannels and taped them

there's a little girl in that pic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
^_^

nice.. wouldn't of thought of ripping out to keep the car clean :)

then i used fiberglass resin (i used bondo brand but any works fine for a speaker box)

i used fiberglass mat and applyed a LIGHT layer ... if you do this yourself make sure its thin or youll never get it off ...

from this point i dont have anymore pics ... my camera ran out of batterys ... however i applyed another layer to the back and then trimed it up using my dremmel ...

then i made some rings to hold the speaker ... i used hotglue and wood posts to hold it ...

i then used fabric to cover the top of the box and give it a shape ... using the same resin as the back i glassed the fabric ... its not as strong as with matting but it will hold shape and work as a mold to build off ...

after a few layers of fiberglass and tons of bondo its ready for the cloth covering ...
sorry for the lack of more pics however im taking TONS with my next box

have you or anybody else ever thought of using chicken wire to get a desire frame?

that's what i've been thinking of, but usually i'm not the first to think of something, generally see it somewhere, then remember later, and think i'm original.

never realy thought of it .... it would work if you get the frame and them fiberglass to that ... that would work for some realy curvy stuff ....hehe im getting ideas :P

I thinkthe problem with chicken wire is managing to get a smooth surface, it might be hard to make a chickenwire frame "non-lumpy"

Box looks cool BTW, props man, I'm thinking I'm gonna do another myself soon. (might have to if I get a different sub) But the theory is to dosome form of ported box, (might be freaky)

A couple of notes:
for removal, if you put a piece of rope, or nylon belt or something under your tape, you can use it for leverage to pop your glass from your surface.

THat box looks like ALOT of volume for a 10, though I guess if you've got your jack area in place that's a bit less room, still I'd say that for a 10 keeping to like .75cubic feet, you should be able to make it just about flush with the side. Somewhere in my thread on my box, there's a shot of 1cubic feet of peanuts stuffed into the area, it barely protrudes.

using filler i have it at right about 1/2 ... if i take out the filler its closer to 1 CF ... but yea a bit bigger then i was hoping for ... this box leaves the jack and everything in place ... the next box will remove it all and come allmost flush

p.s. i think i read your post about your box .... im pretty sure its where i got the idea to try mine :P

the best thing to come out of this box was knowing i could do it :)

Exactly just dive on in and it all sorts itself out nicely, eH? As for the jack, you can fit it fine right behind your spare tire if you point the "feet" upwards. And then you cna access your spare, etc by pulling the floor up from the left as there's a "fold" on that side that the subbbox will fit. Removing the jack cover, etc give you more room for magnet clearance as well...
