Custom iPod Installation (DIE 56k DIE!!!)

I will test that out today as soon as I get a new fuse in my radio.

Stupid remote turn on wire leading to my blown amp shorted out the fuse.

Not sure if youre still around here... but I had 2 questions for you, I was hoping you could clarify.

1. How exactly did you wire up to your cig lighter. Ive got a Mazda6 which Ill be using the Belkin version of the power / line-out car kit. Ive figured out where Im going to store it (behind the console, next to the cig lighter outlet) and Id like to do something similiar to what you did as far as being able to keep the functionality of the cig lighter outlet by 'hard-wiring' the cig lighter to it behind the scenes.

2. The other end of the cig lighter plug... the portion that plugs into your ipod. Do you have this mounted any particular way or does the cable just hang down when your iPod isnt plugged in? Im also going to be purchasing one of the ProClip solutions, but I want to be as clean looking as I can without wires all over the place. Were you able to accomplish this?

Thanks a bunch.

Hey! Badger Biker.... i need your help

Hey! Badger Biker.... i need your help

How did you remove the Cig lighter/Airbag light assembly???

i removed the top of the center console to access the 2 screws at the bottom, but when i pull out the Cig lighter/Airbag light assembly, the lighter side does not want to come off. I am not pulling hard enough? Any chance i break something pulling it off?

Please help, i need your experience.

Thanks!

Forget about that.... i found my way... was not pulling hard enough.
Now i will proceed with a custom install inspired by this tread, but with a hidden Belkin Ipod Car Kit and a Scosche FM in-line modulator.... i am on the list for the AuxMod, but with about 500 orders before me... some day i will get it, i hope.

Thanks again for the great tips

But, how did you connet the iPod to the stereo?

I read all your installation. Looks great.
But my problem is not the battery or how to hold the iPod in a secure place.
My problem is how to connect the iPod signal to the stereo.

I have been hunting for the most direct way (no FM Modulators or Cassette connectors) but a direct wiring to the stereo head. I found Peripheral Electronic's interface, but they do not make a Mazda interface (all other manufactures buy Mazda, why).

I guess you did not explain how you connected your iPod on this forum cause you already had it done.

Please explain me how you did it.

I am currently connected through a FM in-line modulator, but my AuxMod from Sylfex is on its way. The AuxMod connects where the MiniDisc or Tape deck usually connects, direct on the radio... wich is modular btw... and creates an auxiliary input. The TAPE/MD button on the radio switches the input. This device is available only online for waitlisted people.

you will find it here... www.sylfex.com

Thanks for the help there mobomelter ;)

School sucks, seriously. I can't even reply to these threads in a timely manner anymore. :(

This is a little off topic but which wire did you tap into for your under dash lighting? It looks really cool by the way.

Check out this thread: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65443&highlight=PIE

You need the PIE Module for the Mazda3 + the Alpine Connection Cable to give yourself the RCA outputs.

Happy to answer any other questions that you may have! :D

Hello,

I am looking for something to connect my IPOD to my Mazda 6. I know that for some reason the adapter that goes through the plug in the back the would supposely connect the CD Changers.

I know that there is a possibility to connect an interface that goes through the TAPE/MD connector on the lower part of the radio. Do you know were to find something like this.

Regards

So anybody here good with LEDs and resistor values???

a quick google search for "LED resistor calculator" brings up a number of pages like this one:

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Bill_Bowden/led.htm

on this page you enter the total number of LED's, the voltage of each led,the current draw of each LED, the source voltage then press find resistor and it calculates the value and rating of the required LED.

So for example:

1- LED @ 5 volts @ 20ma current draw with a 12v source voltage = 360 ohms .136 watts (1/4 watt is standard value) will be the correct size of resistor.

The PIE type adapaters plug into the "Aux" port on the back of the radio and allow you to plug your ipod in. most brands of adapters work this way

The only product on the market like this is the Auxmod from sylfex and is currently back ordered for quite some time.

How do I remove the cigarette lighter panel??
