Custom FMIC pics and a question!

:
Mazdaspeed Protege 2003.5
I finally got the pics of my FMIC install on my laptop and I thought I'd throw some of them up for you guys to see. My friend Joe did some fabricating to create a unique bumper support that would hold my IC. The dimensions of hte core (without endtanks) is 24"x9"x3" and yes I did have to trim the bumper to fit the piping as you can see on the driver's side. Overall this was a fairly difficult and tedious job mainly because 6061 aluminum is pretty hard to weld in a driveway with a MIG welder. The bumper support was modded and reinforced, then resprayed, I think it may be even stronger than it was before, I had about 500 pounds of people standing on it and not an centimeter of flex. Joe also made a bracket for the intake and for where the SMIC was deleted. Needless to say Joe did an awesome job!

Now for the last and hopefully final question I have for people with a FMIC setup. How did you get the hot pipe around the high pressure AC hose? We are having a hell fo a time bending the metal ends of the hose without snapping them. I'm thinking I might have to get a custom one made because my pipes are right in teh way of the stock route.

Nice install man! Congrats on being one of a few (that I know of) members with a totally custom FMIC! It looks mean as hell on there too. Do you know what kind of gains your getting from it?

That is awesome, great job man. You should make and sell those accessories :D This spearco intercooler I have is just about the same size.

Nice setup there. I was thinking of a fully custom FMIC system as well. Nice Job, I may be sending you some PM's if I actually decide to do it.

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'll pass that along to my friend he did all the planning and work, I just bought the parts:) I would love to dyno this thing and see what type of power I am getting out of it but I dyno'd my car stock a year or so ago and got major pinging so I am afraid to do it since I don't have the cashflow for any type of management at this point. I will hopefully be getting the Corksport S-pipe and a custom 3" back from the S-pipe with high flow cat and 1 resonator by the end of September to pair up with the FMIC and intake. I feel like the FMIC/intake probably gave 10-15 whp maybe, it definitlely spools quicker and a lot louder. With the exhaust/s-pipe I could see 180 or so whp and if I get some kind of management over the winter or next year and raise the boost to 10 psi or so I would hope I could break 200 whp, that is my goal. I do a lot of commuting and I just want something that will get up and go when I need to but still be comfortable and reliable.

Does anyone have any ideas on the high pressure AC hose? Looks like I might start a different thread and try to find local places that can make custom ones. I don't wanna snap another stock $87 hose, that hurts me.

You should be able to find kits on ebay for piping (those have couplers galore), but there should be a local shop around you that can bend the pipes for you as long as you can give them a diagram of what you want.

Nice custom fmic, looks really.I did my own custom fmic and it took some work but came out nice.

Thanks man, you comin to the meet at Arundel Mills in MD on Sunday? I am trying my best to get there. Also, with your custom FMIC did your AC line and hot pipe from the IC to the turbo get in the way of eachother? I cracked mine trying to bend it out of the way and I am in need of a shop that can make custom AC lines.
