custom catback

ok, so i finally got some damn cash money, and have gotten a quote of 175-250$ from my mechanic shop to custom pipe me with a single exit. I am interested in magnaflow mufflers as i dont feel their sound and quality/warrantees can be beat. (had the sickest magnaflow custom headerback on my 240sx)

i told him 3inch pipe, and now i need to find a magnaflow setup to go in there.

CPE uses a resonator with a single muffler, or nothing at all correct? so any magnaflow muffler i get will be a similar setup. just wondering if i should do one big muffler at the end (not a fart cannon) , or a small res, and a smaller muffler at the end. sincle its a single exit i figure it should be slightly larger than the dual system mufflers.

let me know your thoughts.

also can anyone let me in on the size of the cpe muffler they use on the end? im just trying to avoid any or all flow problems that can occur from too large or too small a muffler. thank you guys!

I'd say do a muffler with a small 3" tip and have it come out in the rear fascia with the trim ring removed. I believe both CP-e and Corksport do this with theirs, although CS has the tip fit inside the factory trim ring.

the other option would be to have a round straight through muffler nearer to the axle and then just pipe it all the way hiding inside the fake ring, my fear is that the 3inch super hot pipe will melt the valence plastic. since heat is being split with a dual.

That's similar to what I was referring to, and if it goes inside the trim ring, that will help dissipate some of the heat, since it's basically floating inside the valence. Also, I believe the wall thickness of the ring should help to prevent any melted plastic.

awesome, i took a look on CP-E's website and they have actually REVISED and canceled the old catback, and have come up with a quieter still 100% performing catback with lots of extra options. i think i will be doing something along the lines of a 3inch pipe to an oval magnaflow muffler to no exhaust tip, but merely end the pipe inside the valence and ring, and then when i get another couple bucks i will purchase a corksport race pipe since it is the only one which offers sound dampening characteristics along with my magnaflow.

also, do you think some exhaust wrap will help? (i dont care how it looks as long as it is performing 100%)
