This was copied from a local news website:

FALL RIVER He was looking for a little down time not an easy thing to find for a guy with two young sons so Jeff Furtado turned on the TV while his wife was out with the boys.

He forgot to shut off his brain.

There was a show about a man in Minnesota who ran a car show to raise money for charity, Furtado said. My son has epilepsy. I guess thats why I thought: I can do that. Anyway, it got me thinking.

Furtado is still thinking, sometimes to reflect on what he started, as he prepares for the fourth annual Cure For Kids Car Show to be held on Sunday in parking lots 6, 7 and 8 at Bristol Community College, Elsbree Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

He is expecting 300 vehicles antique cars, muscle cars, tuners, motorcycles, vans, trucks and hot rods competing for prizes in 41 categories.

There will be a disk jockey playing music, hip-hop dance performances, food, drinks and workshops plus games for children.

The event will raise money for a local child with an expensive medical need.

Furtado and the eight people on the charity board decided this year to help Hailey Lee Velho, the 5-year-old daughter of John and Stephanie Velho of Fall River.

Hailey has faced challenges since shortly after her birth. She is confined to a wheelchair now, is legally blind, and has grown enough so that it is difficult for her parents to get her into and out of the car.

They need a wheelchair lift installed in a van, Furtado said. We decided to help them with that.
The family bought a brand new Toyota Sienna van, so they have a good vehicle. But the lift costs another $10,000. That would have been tough.

We hope to raise enough money to pay for that.

Admission to the show is free for spectators. For those entering vehicles in the show, the registration fee is $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the show. To register, call 508-678-5452.
Information about the show is also available on Facebook and MySpace.

It is a great time, Furtado said. And it is really catching on.

Ive been out passing out fliers with my boys. This year, for the first time, people say they know all about the show and they plan to attend. They tell us to keep up the good work. So I guess we will.

Yea not many Mazdaspeeds in my area probably why they neglected the category. I'm in for this since its a 2 minute drive for me.....but so help me if I hear 2 different kinds of music playing at full volume I'm out.

I'm going to meet up with some friends they all are Honda/Talon people. Since theres no Mazda category I'm spectating.

You could still enter Josh. I'm sure you'll give everyone a good run for their money.

Thanks, but if I go I'd rather not stick around all day. Not really into showing the car this year. I'd rather spend time hanging out with my NEPOC crew.
