2011 CX-9 Touring-Dolphin Gray
I purchased my first Mazda last weekend (2011 CX-9 Touring-Dolphin Gray with black interior). I think I remember seeing or reading about a divider that is supposed to sit inside the cupholder. Is this a standard item? Mine did not come with that so I essentially have one big open cavity that isn't really contoured to hold average-size cups (think McDonald's medium to-go cups) without them tipping over. In the current configuration, I'd probably have to wedge (2) 32oz. big gulps in there if I didn't want them tipping over. Is there an insert others are using to hold smaller cups?

That is weird... I don't know why someone would take that out.
Bad news is the center divider piece is not sold individually. You have to buy the whole cup holder insert assembly 64-427A

Did you purchase the vehicle at dealer? tell them the piece was missing when you bought it and maybe, just maybe they will be nice and get you one at no charge. If not,
it probably wouldn't be too difficult to fabricate a piece that would work.

It was a former rental car, but I still don't know why they would have taken it out. Maybe it broke and they just didn't want to replace it. I did buy it used from a dealer so I will see if they step up and replace it. I did speak to the dealer closest to my house (not where I bought it) and they want $129.82. I appreciate the links to the cheaper options, but even $72 is a little much since I only need the cup separator portion of the assembly.

For those that have the separator, can you tell me if it simply pops in and out. If so, I could probably grab one at a local salvage yard.

EDIT: Has anyone used these guys before? I see they have just the insert (part #9-flat bottom and divider) listed for $13.40. I don't see a color option though. My interior is black, including the existing cup holder assembly. Is that the only cup holder color or do they also have a sand cup holder for those with sand-colored interiors?

I don't think that comes with the divider/separator that you are needing. I think it is just the little rubber mat.
But anyway, I did a quick google search and it appears that the parts are all black even with the sand colored interiors.

I think you're right. I assumed it was a plastic base that came with the divider (a 2-part component), but if it's a rubber mat, then you're right. Hopefully, I hear something back from the dealer that sold it to me.

It looks like it would be pretty easy for me replicate with my 3D printer if you don't have any luck with the dealer or salvage yards.

just squeeze a cupple beer cozies in there. Improved functionality- it will hold and insulate the drinks better. (drunk)

They will probably have to take one out of one of their 2013's Mazda 6's on the lot and try it in the CX-9

The dealer I bought the car from pulled a divider out of another used CX9 and is holding it for me. I need to drive an hour to get it, but that beats paying $75 for a whole new assembly. Gives me an excuse to wander the aisles at the nearby Ikea and grab me some Swedish meatballs.
