Okay so Ive been opening my mind to a bunch of cult-status movies that I wouldve seen going to college or something. Ive made a list of what ive seen so far and was wondering for some good recommendations.

Requim for a Dream
Gummo
Donnie Darko
Boondock Saints

Ive heard punch drunk love was good.

How about Garden State..... I just watched it and I though it was great. Natalie Portman playing an epileptic compulsive liar... and she's still hot... funny as hell

Cult movies has always been a vague topic to me. Still not sure how people define that category, but here are some movies I think are good/insane/bizzare that you may not have heard of or seen at least:

Brain Candy
Bad Boy Bubby
The Ring(japanese version)
Slackers
Julien Donkey Boy
L.I.E
We're All Devo
Session 9
The Forbidden Zone
True Romance
Bubba Hotep

Those are just some good ones that spring to mind for now.

I have friends(ex-roomates) that work in a local movie store with lots of independant/foreign movies and such. I see a lot of movies that are really out there, used to watch a couple every day. If there is a certain type of movie you're looking for I could list more.

Hmmm,

P.C.U.
Animal House
Plan 9 From Outer Space (Just so bad it's almost good)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Fight Club

I'm sure there are a ton more if I went over and looked at my movie collection, but I'll save some of the fun for the morning crowd.

I also think that Napolean Dynamite and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle may be destined for cult status as well. But, we'll see. It's hard for recent movies with all their hype and advertising to ever really be true cult classics. Fight Club and P.C.U. seemed to slide under most people's radar while they were in the theatres because they were either badly promoted or under promoted and that's why they have established themselves in the cult classic genre. Well, at least IMO.

Anything by Christopher Guest

Memento. I had fun watching it a couple times back to back trying to figure out what the hell happened. While I was drunk.

shaun of the dead could be almost cultish.
more mainstream but one we watched a lot of was Tombstone, "I'm your huckleberry"! I think I remember just about every line of Val Kilmers from that one.

Pi, Requiem for a dream, army of darkness (evil dead), boondock saints, six string samurai, donnie darko, any and all troma films, true romance, all the bond films (some people just can't let it go) and as for me, the obvious, walken movies.

absolutely. That and Dr. Strangelove are two of my favorites. However, the original cult status movies we're citizen kane, casablanca and the maltese falcon (my favorite).

Good scifi cult..."The Cube"..."Tron"...all the Mad Max/Road Warrior movies.

Good J-Lo cult...."The Cell"

Ooh, I forgot about six string samurai, that's a kickass movie. The soundtrack rocks your balls off, I love the Red Elvises. I'll second the Troma movies too. Tromeo and Juliet is one of my favorites. Followed by "Buttcrack", about a fat zombie that if you stare at his buttcrack, you become a zombie too (starring Mojo Nixon as the preacher)(rofl2).

SpicyMcHaggis: You seen McBain?

Battle Royale is good, and the sequel was also enjoyable, but only for it's ridiculous-ness.

If you like gore and extreme sexual perversion and you don't mind subtitles, try renting anything by Takashi Miike. Ichi the Killer is a good one, Happiness of the Katikuri's, Dead or Alive(first or second one, final blows), Visitor Q...

That reminds me, Dead Alive(different from Dead or Alive), or Bad Taste(from the producer of LOTR, lol) are good 'uns too.

Sorry never heard of it, explanation please.

My favorite part of McBain is the scene of him flying the jet, and he shoots the enemy pilot in the other jet without puncturing either cockpit. (laugh)
