is that the movie with the guy with the accent that is trying to offer his peanuts to the guy next to him and keeps asking: "do you want my penis?"
Umm, no.

It has Sly in it.

Tagline: In The Year 2000 Hit And Run Driving Is No Longer A Felony. It's The National Sport!

Basically it's Carmageddon the movie. (rockon)

Oh, and I too watched RAD over a hundred times when I was a kid. I can never find it at the movie store though. THere was another movie I used to watch...with a magic dirt bike or something. I used to rent both for a double header.

kind of a disturbing flick, but cultish I guess...'Kids'

Office Space is kind of 'cultish' right? :) mmkay

Not many I can think of that are left to add to the running list... you two guys that added Rad and Gleaming the Cube are awesome though.(thumb)

These are all worthy to add though I think:

Heathers
Dusk til Dawn
Pump up the Volume
Jacobs Ladder
Dogma

SLC punk sucked. Good cult movie is Suburbia..the first one. That was a good movie. Kid's was a great movie. My boy harold hunter was in it.

So many good ones have been taken but I'll give it a shot:
Before Sunrise (one of the few romantic movies I can tolerate)
Equilibrium (can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet)
Amelie (maybe?)
Hackers (for Angelina Jolie alone)
Trainspotting (british "kids")

like I said, most of the good ones are already taken

Amelie is a great movie. Trainspotting as well. I forgot Equilibrium, that was a good flick. Anyone ever see "things to do in denver when your dead?"

Adaptation
2 Days in the Valley
Magnolia

ANY COEN BROS. (esp. Big Lebowski)
ALL Kevin Smith (esp. Clerks)
Easy Rider

theice: nice avatar, hehe. And Kevin Smith is a douche.

The original Drunken Master(1978) with Jackie Chan. The "Lone Wolf and Cub" series. The Wu Tang series.

This isn't a great movies list...but a cult classic list. That means the movie has a small following of people that obsess over the movie while the majority thinks the movie sucked if they dared watch it at all. In most cases, the film never received any recognition and did poorly at the box office.

For example, The Craft, which I didn't see mentioned, is a cult classic. I thought the movie was stupid, yet I'm sure all of you can identify one person in your high school class, most likely a goth female, that worshiped this movie.

Easy Rider, however, is a great classic film. It was a huge hit when it came out and has remained on people's favorite movie lists ever since. It is not a cult classic but instead a plain and simple classic.

UHF is a cult classic. It bombed in the theaters, most of the world, even if they know who Weird Al is, don't know he ever made a movie. Furthermore, they would be amazed to find out that Kramer from Sienfeld and Luke from General Hospital were in it. Can you even get the movie on DVD? Every copy I have ever rented (I rent it at least once a year and should prolly buy it) has had wavy crappy sound.

American Pie is not a cult classic. Everyone in America between the ages of 16-24 saw this movie and loved it. Although it didn't receive any awards because its a raunchy teen/college flick, it did outstanding at the box office prompting two sequels.

A Clockwork Orange, is a cult classic. Film buffs adore this film in every essence but the majority think its a sick and twisted film and would never watch it a second time even if someone paid them.

chuyler1, you included American Pie as well as Road Trip. These could never be considered anything close to cult, as you later stated yourself.

So, I included a few picks that I would consider to be more "independent" and never really found a mass audience. I guess these may or may not be cult, although I do recommend them either way, and in my head they are cult, because I love them, and most others I know do not.

Can a movie become too popular by the masses to be cult? I think movies like Rocky Horror or SPinal Tap are probably too widely praised then for your definition.

Here is a quote from filmsite.org:
"Easy Rider surprisingly, was an extremely successful, low-budget (under $400,000), counter-cultural, independent film for the alternative youth/cult market, with sex, drugs, casual violence, a sacrificial tale (with a shocking, unhappy ending), and a pulsating rock and roll soundtrack reinforcing or commenting on the film's themes."

sorry for the rambling.....

movies is what I do. I went through a peeiod (when I was singe) where ALL I did was watch movies. No car, no girl, no PS2, I had a goal of renting the most movies at my local video store.

I was ( and still may be ) the BIGGEST loser on the planet- and it feels great!
