Does anyone know of a guide or have any general tips for how to install a cruise control? I bought the sport edition, but would like to get the upgrades. Is that something I could do myself?

Hey Fam!

You're correct, the thing was that they didn't have any! I sold my old car and then this Mazda 2 was one of 3 in the entire state of Minnesota. All 3 were sport :/ they were also out of ford fiestas etc... they explained it was because of the Japanese earthquake etc. I appreciate the info you provided!

I know in the NC Miatas, owners have found that all the equipment to get the factory cruise control to work was already installed in the car, they just needed the steering wheel switches to get it to work. Has anyone taken the steering wheel apart and seen if the same might be true for the 2? I'm looking to get into a manual, and can't find a Touring manual anywhere, so I'm thinking I'll have to get a sport and figure this stuff out too.

The part numbers are the same other than the steering wheel assembly and the airbag module. I haven't taken mine apart yet either, but I think there's some wiring that passes through/around the airbag that makes the Touring-specific airbag necessary.

The aftermarket has solutions, but I'd really rather use factory components if possible.

(And I'm still happy with my Sport- it was 2.5k cheaper than a Touring, and the only thing I really miss is the cruise control.)
