Cruise Control On/Off

It has happened to me.

When it is really cold out, sometime it will not engage, or will have a bit of a delay before it engages.

In the summer it always works right away.

The P5's have really annoying cruise controls. When I first got my P5, I couldnt figure it out for like two weeks. Your problem must be the main switch.
Also, it could be that you are holding the set button instead of just pressing it.

While we're on the topic...

It bugs me that the cruise buttons don't light up at night. I always use it at night and I can never remember which button to press.

chuyler: I agree with you...my Neon had raised bumps on the "Set" button so you could find it at night -- even though they didn't light up. I thought ours had a texture on them, but I don't use it enough to remember.

Would be nice if they were backlit...but if we're complaining about the little things, that's one helluva compliment to Mazda. Cuz we obviously don't have anything major to b**** about.

I know I know....I love the car so much...little little details are all that bug me. Like the water dribbling up the windshield after you wash it off...

Top Button, Accel
Middle Button, Cancel
Bottom Button, Set/Coast
Side Button, Main (power on/off)

What is so hard to remember about that, and you can feel the spacer between the buttons..

The location isn't the greatest, but better than being on an arm off of the steering column.

Guess they did it this way to not ruin our nice steering wheel, cause the 3's steering wheel is fugly!

The cruise light on our WRX died about a week after the warranty expired. It would only come on when you actually had it 'set.' Turning the power main on (has a light on the button), did not turn on the dash light.

BTW, the smoothness of the P5 cruise is about 100x better than the clunkiness of the WRX cruise.
I noticed you can set cruise control on the WRX below 25mph.... in first gear too! That's when things get really jerky.

Btw, the protege cruise control works exactly the same as any other system I've ever used....:bs:

i dont have an auto so i cant speak for how it works when shifting, but in the 5spd when you shift with the cruise on it cuts it off.

True, but only if you use the clutch to shift. If you bump into N without the clutch and the cruise set, the engine will rev up. I'm not willing to try this, but if someone is, let us know what happens! :D

I leave mine on all the time...

I never know when I am going to use cruise (mostly when police are near by..)

back to the original question...i think someone mentioned cold weather might be the cause of the cruise not engaging. It may be so..it has been crazy cold here the last 2 weeks...i'll give it another try once it warms up...

One would hope so or the car will redline as the car slows down..

The Cruise is driven off of the manifold pressure. The cold might cause a problem but it would have to be stupidly cold. After about 10 min, the heat from the engine would thaw out ant problem I can see because all the systems are by the firewall.

Can someone post a pic of where the "Cruise" light shows up on the cluster? I'm looking to install cruise on my MSP using the P5 steering wheel switch. I just want to know if the MSP cluster has an actual "Cruise" light and if so, is it even hooked up to light up.

it is on the top, between the left and middle gauges, it's green. I'll try to get a pic of it today.

It should really have 2 lights, like my Goldwing: A "Cruise On" light and a "Cruise Set" light...no confusion.

Actually, it probably wouldn't be hard to wiring up an LED or something off the main Cruise relay....
Like 03 Nissan Altimas do also. The on/off button turns the "Cruise" light on and the set button turns the "Set" light on.. only problem is that the on/off isn't a physical switch so you have to turn it on every time the car is turned on.
