Cruise control light turns itself on upon engine start

Hi. Thought I'd post this after not being able to find a thread on this issue. My Ms3's cruise control experienced something weird recently. Occasionally when I turn on the engine the cruise control light would turn on by itself and stay in yellow. It's always on a cold day and usually happens when I start the car the first time that day. I can switch it off and I don't think it has affected my ability to use cruise control, but I'm curious and have no idea what caused it.

My 2009 stayed on all the time. I never turned it off and it would just remember I had it on from when I turned it off. My 2012 however, turns off every time I turn the engine off and I have to turn it back on again. I kinda liked it always being on, only had to push one button to cruise.
