Crimping 4 gauge ring terminals!!

i used one of the rgular crimper and just pushed really hard and got a good crimp taht way. . .anotehr way is to just hammer the s*** out of it

I used a set of the big vise grips, close the tip right in the middle from both sides it works great. Also if you have a torch and some pipe solder, solder the wire to the connector after crimping for extra reliability and strength. If not make sure the crimp is solid. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! I've got vise grips here, so we'll see how that works. Also...Vegas...I love that quote! Best...Moranis...movie...ever... (said in comic book guy voice)

Hehe thanks! Spaceballs is a all time comedy classic, it sits on the self next to office space :D. Good Luck with the crimping. It shouldn't be that bad.

you gotta use proper tool... I believe those tools are quite expensive.
that's why my custom ground kit was loosed and decided to get one from 1st mp3 NH, he has all the tools.
ask him

Bash the @#$% out of it with a hammer! I spent hours trying to find (cheap) tools to crimp a goddam 4ga ring terminal, to no avail. Only later I learned of "impact crimpers" and what not--but why spend $40+ on it, when you can just put that s*** down on the ground and bash it w/ a hammer? Works like a champ!

Good solid Russian method, Oleg! :D

I got it to work with the vise grips...I don't think it's going anywhere, anytime soon. I pulled it quite a bit, and it didn't move, so it should be good!

Thanks again guys!

Just use the non crimping stlye ends in the future. You don't have to have anything but an allen wrench and they are infanitly reusable.

Yeah yeah...I wasn't sure if it would fit on the monster terminal that I have there. Also...those come in pairs from KnuKonceptz, and I really only needed one. I did get it to work, though...and it's pretty darned tight. The rest of them that I have to do shouldn't be hard at all ([4] 8 ga. and a bunch of 12-16ga). I can't wait to get to installing this stuff!

Her's how I crinp 4 ga terminals . I use a slot screwdriver with the blade in the grove on the termnial and hit the screwdriver with a hammer ,make sure the terminal is on something hard . This drives the middle of the terminal into the wire , then I finish the crimp with visegrips . You can't do this in the car ,prefit the wire and remove the wire then add your terminals OR your could go out and buy the crimping tool for 4 guage wire . (expensive )

they are 5 bucks a pair, comeon, thats cheap. get some anywhere else and they run 20 bucks a pair

Again...I wasn't sure they'd fit w/ my terminal. The top screw is already occupied by one thing. If it had just been the connector, then no biggie, but I've already got a 4 ga ring term on top, and I definitely knew I could fit two (because I have two on the negative term)

The screwdriver/hammer idea was what I was gonna do, but the vise grips did ok. They primarily crimped one side down hard (so it was uneven) but compressed the other side pretty well. As long as it's making good contact (which it was by visual inspection) then it should be alright, right?

the way i've found to do it is like this, if on the bottome side of the terminal, there is a small slit, take a HUGE set of pliers, ones about 12 in long, but designed to fit around bid bolts and nuts and squeeze down on one side of the slit, and press it down a little bit, then take the pliers and now squeeze the other side of the connector on top of the other side you just pushed down...then just squeese the 2 as much as you can. it shouldn't be that had b/c of the torque you can produce from the long pliers. i can do 8 gauge with small needle nose.

I first used vice grips, but they were old and broke after the four of them were done (for my groundkit). I then went to hammering it on. I did it on the marble threshold of the bathroom. It held up and it's an apartment, so it's not like my place (plus the landlord here sucks and is a cheap ass so **** him!):p

I like to use crimpers.
