crappy "xenon" bulbs

Hey everyone check these out. I was given (thank goodness I didn't pay) these bulbs to try out, as my friend works for a large import tuning company here in Atlanta and gets alot of free samples. I've been using them for about 2 months and after noticing that my nighttime visibility had gotten worse rather then better, I went to change them back last night. Look at the picture I attached....now I'm no expert but it appears these bulbs are crap! I guess they overheated and melted...good thing I caught it before it did damage to the reflectors.....anyway just a warning...

Wow, that's bizare? Are they made of plastic or something? I wouldn't think glass could do that...

I agree though, colored bulbs don't do nice things to your night visibility. I think the stock headlights are quite good!

that bulb is about to explode!!!!!

thus, never, ever get those cheapo 'xenon white' bulbs, or prepare to repair damaged headlight housing

what brand were those?? it looks like somebody might have touched the bulb and gotten some oil on there...that's the only thing i could think of that would do that...

U're lucky that your reflectors didn't melt. That would cost several hundred bucks to replace.

Becareful of those bulbs with think coating!!!

Judging by your pic there, I can tell it is one of those cheapo $10 pair fake xneon lights. Just look at the thick coating on that thing, the coating will only make your light blue, but the lumniation will actually be worsen, just imagine putting a thick layer of blue paper over a 50 watts light bulb, the light will be blue, but will not be bright.

Lucky you did not damage your car. For those ppl out there who were so tempted to get these... DON'T, they will not help you to see better which should be the purpose of headlight anyways.

BTW, just to sorta answer sundevilMP5's question, if the bulb has oil on it, the bulb should have exploded instead of growing a big blue thingie there.

Oh, if you touch your bulbs when installing by accident, just try to clean the bulb with some rubbing alcohol and hope the oil and grease on your hands will evapourated with the alcohol.

The bulbs were made by "Hiper Industries"....and claim to be "HID Vision"....yeah right.

I've had PIAA superwhite's and I thought they were good bulbs, on a previous car....but I'm not willing to lay out the cash for them anymore.....I think the stock headlights on the P5 are pretty darn good....guess I'll just stick with them...

Or,

if you are worried about the lenses being "fogged" up in the future, you could just get those inexpensive Cool Blue bulbs by Sylvania, they are not noticable brighter or whiter than the stock ones, but they have uv cut, which means they won't fog up your lamp lenses.

btw, they costed me $29.37US a pair.
