Craigslist scam?

Opinions, should I cease all contacts with this guy? His emails are more than a little fishy, but can't really pull out how he would plan to scam me. Yes, it's my dorky high school trombone that's for sale

Yes, the Trombone is still available. The condition overall is very good, the lacquer has a great color and is still very glossy. There are a few minor scratches around the mouthpiece where a lyre was attached. There are no dents and the slide is smooth.

I believe $250 is a fair price for this Trombone in its condition. I don't have a specific price set that I will not go below, but I will consider an offer… do you have a specific amount in mind? I do prefer cash payment if possible.

as far as craigslist goes, unless they give you cash in person and pick it up, I'd say avoid it.

ebay: unless they give you a personal check and don't mind waiting until it clears, paypal you, or send you a money order and you verify that it hits your bank account with no problems, it is probably a scam.

Usually if they are going for a weird payment and shipping method as show above, it is a scam.

He could just be identity phishing, or trying one of the scams that Ebay had a lot of trouble with, or both.

If I remember correctly, this is how it goes:

He sends to the "certified check" for more than the specified ammount. He'll ask that you cut him a check for the difference, hoping that you'll cut that check before the bank realizes his certified check is in fact, either counterfit/fraud, or no good.

At first I was gonna suggest his "mover" just bring cash and make the transaction in person, but then I wasn't so sure its a good idea to give the dude my address. I emailed him to let him know I found another buyer. (fuoops)
