Just happened...its about a 4 in horizontal crack on the lower passenger side...
Do these cars have weak windshields? Is this under warranty or am I gonna have to pay for it..and how much would this cost to fix?

Thanks

weak windshield.

doesnt hurt to try.

better to get it at a window shop so you get better glass, dunno the cost.

If it was caused by a rock, then you'll have to shell out the cash (or your insurance co.)
My old car got a cracked windshield last november. Wicked expensive to fix. Now I follow Mazda's recommendation in the owners manual about leaving at least 200 ft. between cars @ 90 km/h...

Actually, I dont think a rock hit it..I just assumed...I did a search and found out about stress cracks...
My wife was sitting right there and she didnt see any rocks...and there was no cars around me...

EDIT:
I just went outside to look at it..and there's no signs of impact from a rock, etc....The crack starts from the very edge of the glass and extends out about 4-5 inches...I think its one of those stress cracks..

If you were going in a straight line or a normal bend, I HIGHLY doubt it was a stress crack.

If you were going 120 on a 'hair-pin' turn, then MAYBE it was a stress crack.

If you dont see any strike marks (ie: where a rock might have hit) and it is actually a straight crack from the EDGE of the glass, then it is a stress crack. If its in the middle of the windshield, it was a rock.

I was going about 75-80 on a 2 lane highway with no cars around and it is like the stress crack you described...

If the crack is 4in like you said then your insurance company will usually cover it with no expense to you, and no rate increase. If Mazda doesn't want to fix it I'd call the insurance company.

Shouldn't they fix it though if its a defective windshield? I only have like 4000 miles on my car...

In that case, I agree with KYREDP5 to go to the dealer and see if they will replace it... if not give them sheat and then go through your insurance if you have to.

And I'm pretty sure my insurance wont cover that unless I pay my deductible which i can't do...so I hope the dealer will fix it..

here ya go pal

nothing has ever hit my MSP windshield.

had a 3 day weekend the other weekend.

Parked the car on sat night. Saw it in my driveway unmoved all 3 days. Went out on wednesday morning to go to work, big ole crack in top of windshield. About 12 inches long curves from the edge on the top down into the windshield and curves off to one side

ill have some words with the service manager if this isnt covered by warranty :)

That sucks...It seems these windshields have some issues. I'm afraid to drive my car until Monday when I can take it in to the Service dept. I don't want a rock to hit it and then the dealer will tell me its not under warranty anymore...

this exact thing happend to me! print out all the stuff you read on this fourm about the windshields cracking and take it to the service manager

they didnt want to cover mine under warranty and said a rock hit it there were no signs of rocks or anything i took it to 3 glass shops and had them look at it and all of them said that there was no signs of a rock or and mass object. took about 3 weeks for them to get a windshield from mazda but YES ITS UNDER WARRANTY and should give you a rental car too =P i got a pimp mazda 6 hehe GL

oh yeah look under the window trim if the crack goes under that black trim to the edge of the glass its a "stress crack" so the glass shops say -later

Yeah, I double checked..and it goes all the way to the trim and under I think...I just hope my dealer is cool about it..

I went to look at it again, and its already getting longer..curving upward..and I haven't driven it.

Me Too

I too have a cracked windshield. Mine in particular was a stress fracture. The crack starts directly from the passenger side A-pillar and continues about 8-10 inces in. There is no indication of a rock impact and after taking it into the dealer it was considered a warranty issue. Unfortunately the windshields are on backorder and I've been dealing with it for a month 1/2 now.

That crack sounds almost exactly like mine...that really sucks they're on backorder. :(

mine started to take a turn down about 10inches or so but almost strait out from the passengers side im just waiting for the "factory" replacement to crack and them to blame it on the turbo upgrade ,

back-order (piss) had to wait on mine too

I cant believe you had to argue with your dealer for 3 weeks about this windshield crap...If my dealer pulls that s*** on me I'm gonna ****** lose it..
