cracked oil housing...problem...

The shop probably over torqued the oil filter housing. The manual says to torque it to 25-35 Nm. I bet the shop doesn't even own a torque wrench. That's why I don't let anyone work on my car, I don't trust a guy making minimum wage to take care of my stuff.

I've been doing mine hand tight on all my cars and never had a problem. If your strong or have good grip you should be able to make it tight enough, plus you can see the seal also. Make sure you oil the seal though :)

thanks for the help guys n ya im stupid for not pulling over when the light came on. i faxed mazda what they asked for n if they dont wanna fix it im just gonna stop paying it n let the bank take it- i dont have money or time to take it to a lawyer n the guy that did the oil change said it wasnt his fault cuz he used the tool n he did it right so he's not paying n i dont have money to get it fixed. so i guess this is where my mazda n i part ways. i guess ill just wait n see what mazda says- n thanks to the ppl with the pesimist/negative posts, that really shut my hopes up...ill post the results once i get'em i guess n then i'm done buggin u all- thanks again everyone. l8rz.

Don't give up so quickly. Wait to hear what Mazda has to say and if they're not covering it, definitely talk to an attorney. Yeah you did something stupid but it was not all your fault.

Just a general question for people in the know: do you think she has a shot at getting her insurance to cover this if all else fails?

so when are you going to stop being stupid? you're out of transportation, and you want mazda to fix your stupidity because you went to a cheap ass oil change place and you failed to read the owner's manual to understand what the warning lights/instrumentation means?

the shop ****** your car up, and you have this "I don't have time" excuse when you're a customer who expected quality guaranteed service but failed to receive it... so you just think you can sleep this off by stopping payments on the car so that they can take the car back? GREAT JOB, you ****** your credit up!

so let's see:
-you failed to read the owner's manual to understand your car better... stupidity #1
-you make the lame "I'm a girl" excuse when s*** goes wrong for you (like most females I've seen), yet all you females out there demand "equal treatment" or "equal rights"... so stupidity #2
-you spent lots of money on this car and don't want to do anything to resolve this matter... stupidity #3
-you blame mazda for your car being ****** up because you went to vato loco's repair shop and expect mazda to fix the s*** for you under warranty... stupidity #4
-you threaten to stop payments on your car so that it can get repo'd and **** your credit up for years... stupidity #5

are you going to stop being stupid yet?

call us being harsh, and call us assholes... I don't care what you call me or think of me... I don't know you and what you think of me won't hurt my feelings... people call me an asshole here all the time because I tell them the ugly facts instead of feeding them bulls***... we told you what you need to do to get this taken cared of... you don't like what we told you? fine... it's not our car... but don't say we didn't try to help you because that makes you the asshole... your bad attitude and pathetic username tells us a lot about what kind of person you are too

i dont have a bad atttiude, if u were going through what i'm going through u wouldnt be all happy about it- and my username has nothing to do with who i am, its the same username i use for every website im a member of since i was like 13- its just easy to have just one.
be a dick to me all u want, i really dont care. i can deal with ignorant people like yourself.
i didnt say i didnt like what everyone on here told me, if i remember correctly, i THANKED everyone for their help. i just dont feel like dealing with this right now. i have more important s*** going on in my life than a car- plus i have another one so no im not out of transportation. n i could care less about my credit- i have my reasons.
and i thought this was a cars website for car related discussions not to hate on people and call them names and criticize them just to feel better about yourself. do u feel like THE MAN now that you've acted like an asshole towards someone u dont even know? feel better now? good- now go talk s*** on someone else's posts.

ya i'm waiting on it. i'll give them a call later on this week or something in case they forgot. i dont think i'm gonna take the attorney route to solve this just cuz i'm friends with all the guys at the shop and i'm not gonna sue them or anything. they used the tools they were supposed to and they've worked on my car since i first bought it and it has been taken really good care of so i'm not gonna punish them for something that it was either a car deffect on the housing or my own fault for not reading the manual or pulling over when the light came on...

Well friends or no friends, YOU'RE the one that has to bear the financial burden. You need to find out and document the exact cause of failure. Talk to the dealer, document the issue with pics and have them show you the crack and how they determined the cause of failure. If negligence can be proved then you'll have a strong case.

I obviously don't know you and your relationship with the shop, but right now they don't look like 'friends' to me. Hope everything works out.

Sorry to here about your situation. Bad idea to stop paying on the car. If the MS3 is repossessed your situation will go from bad to worse.

You probably owe a lot more on the car than what it is worth. With a blown engine the car could only be sold for salvage at auction. The bank will come and sue you for the difference of what the car is worth vs. what you owe. The lien-holder will get a successful judgement against you.

That means any meaningful job you hold down for years to come will have those wages garnished to pay for a mistake you decided not to address.

Friends or no friends with the shop I would maybe try and work out a compromise with them. Maybe have them reimburse you for half of the engine replacement since both of you are technically at fault.

Good luck.

Exactly. If they are really "friends" THEY should be the ones to either locate you a new/used engine and charge you cost. Then they should put it in for the ACTUAL labor it calls for. book values call for 10.5hrs labor which includes the swapping of accessories. New motor listing for $2976.65 according to All Data Pro. totaling out to be (@65hr my shop rate) 3659.15 + tax. Hopefully you get a decent tax return.

yeah I really hate to see you in this situation. Cause it sucks alot. Hopefully everything will work out and somehow something or someone can replace the engine for ya. Only complaint is please dont use the Im a girl excuse again.. cause its so played out.. its pathetic. Good luck with everything.

does the OP even know for sure that the motor is blown? I've had friends who had honda and toyota motors run w/o oil for a while. Added oil to it and all was well.

granted, their's didnt have a turbo, but if all it did was shut off.... I don't recall reading that it was siezed or a rod thru the block or anything

our engines don't take well to low/no oil... they're not quite as well built as the old true mazda motors

i dont know if the motor is blown or if whatever the dealer said is true- i just took it in and that's what they said. so maybe i should have someone else go look at the car or something?- the dealer guy said they put oil to try and start it and it was making a weird noise- i sent mazda the paperwork they asked for to see if the car was well maintained and they said it wasn't sufficient info or something like that- but my dad's talking to them monday to see what else they want-
if the warranty doesnt cover it maybe i can get an engine somewhere and have the guys from the shop that broke the housing put it in for me. where can i look for engines? this is like the best car i've ever had, i don't wanna just let it go-

tisk tisk you are right. My fault on the assumption. I will give you one point for the technicality (lol2)

Hey good looking car. My wife had the 2.3 and I really liked it. It felt more tossable compared to the MS3 because of the lower weight.

Let us know how everything turns out.
