Cracked Oil Filter Housing

I had brought my 2004 Mazda 6 in for an oil change 1400 miles ago. I was driving home from work and the oil light came on when going 70 mph down the highway. Pulled over right away but the engine had quit before I could stop. Had the vehicle towed and they found a crack in the oil filter housing that let the oil out very quickly and now my engine is seized. I had my last oil change done at a Mazda dealership. Vehicle has only 82000 miles on it.

What can cause the housing to crack? I had my last oil change done at the Mazda dealership so I think they would have the tool to take the housing off correctly. The individual at the dealership said the housing was rounded off quite a bit where the tool makes contact with the housing, but the tool still fit on the housing. The crack is very small, but it goes all the way around the housing where the tool would contact the housing.

I don't think I did anything wrong and now I am stuck with a bad engine in my car. What do I do?

If the oil was changed at a Mazda dealership I think the answer to your question is easy.

Some people say that they will tell you that you should have turned the car off faster, etc. But then you get the lawyer speech out.

BTW I already have an answer from the dealership. I just want to know what people think.
I also have not had all of my oil changes at the dealership, but the most recent oil change was completed there. The dealership is not accepting full responsiblilty.
