Submitted my claim. Supposed to get a response within 30 calendar days. Got the approval after 33 days. But the approved amount is unknown.
Where do live that the nearest Mazda dealer is 2.5 hours? There's about 30 Mazda dealers within 2.5 hours from me (MA).I bought my 2018 CX-9 with 52k miles. Shortly after that I read stories of cylinder cracks and didn't sleep the whole night. Well I'm at 81k now and started smelling coolant last week after driving. I'm been watching it and finally saw it drop from the F line to L line and see drops on the garage. I'm 2.5 hours away from the nearest Mazda dealership. Is it possible to drive the car that far or does the problem get increasingly worse?
I live in Northern Michigan. We had a Mazda dealer in town when they were part of Ford. That dealership is a chain with a Mazda dealership that I plan to go to. I plan to ask them if they still have any Mazda certified technicians but I doubt they do. Planning to drive 2 vehicles down.Where do live that the nearest Mazda dealer is 2.5 hours? The drive all depends on whether your engine temp is being affected yet. Fortunately you shouldn't have anything to stress over as Mazda should cover. Just have a game plan before making the trip (dealer loaner secured, or be ready if the car overheats on the way).

Can I just watch the gauge? Wouldn't a warning light turn on?What I would do is call the dealer, and Mazda Corporate, to ask for their recommendation on whether you should drive it or not. There is a risk of compounding the problem further if the leak worsens during the drive and the engine overheats.

I made it down and it's getting looked at. Wish me luck. No check engine lights but my "change oil soon" notification came on about 60 miles from the dealership. I've owned the car for 2 years and I've never had that notification ever. It still has 2700 miles since I changed the oil and I have been checking coolant and oil levels the last week and keeping everything topped off.You can, but once the engine starts to overheat, the damage may already be done. As it is right now, if the leak is a slow external one, you can just add coolant. But the area where the crack originated has already been weakened. One bad bump in the road could turn a small leak into a big one, and the repair could go from a cylinder head replacement to a full-on engine replacement.
Again, I'm just speculating, you may have zero issues driving it yourself. But I would still check with the dealer and Mazda Corporate to make sure that they will still cover the repair if the problem does happen to get worse on the drive over.
Update on my CX-9. The cylinder head was replaced. It took 2-3 weeks and I got a CX-70 PHEV as a loaner. They said it would be done in 2 days at first but I didn't believe that would happen and thought it was super optimistic. When I got it back there was some residual coolant in some spots so I cleaned it up the best I could because the smell was making me paranoid. I drove it about 3000 miles since and now I'm noticing an oil leak in the driveway. I haven't done a thorough inspection but from what I can tell it's probably the oil pan. I watched a video about the block replacement procedure and I think they do remove the oil pan. Does anyone know what's involved with dropping the pan and resealing the gasket? I did my Jeep oil pan but just wondering if it's something they can easily do during the next oil change or does it involve removing a bunch of other stuff.I made it down and it's getting looked at.
